View Full Version : Got a vette last night

Raced a c5 vette last night and beat him 3 out of 4 times last night. I wish I could have talked to him but it just didn't happen because we were going different ways. Here is the story, I posted it on myspace.
Alright, so I am headed home last night from Cushing to my home in Oklahoma City coming down Turner Turnpike when a C5 Corvette flies past me in my Camaro. So I speed up to catch up and we are running around 100 to 110. As I pull up next to him he floors it and I do the same. I pull away from him about 2 car lengths to 135. We slow back down to about 90 and I pull up next to him and I floor it this time and he follows and I pulled about 4 car lengths by 120. The third time he fell back quite a ways and got one hell of a running start and I floor it from 80 to 135 and I was catching up but he let off so he won that one. 2-1 for me. Oh yeah, did I fell to mention that the nitrous was off? I couldn't reach the bottle to turn it on until we slowed way down. We slowed to about 65 side by side and I turned the bottle on. He floored it and got the jump but as soon as I hit the nitrouw I just started walking away from him, but I could tell something wasn't right when I hit the button. I ran it to over 165 and he was falling back extremely fast, I wondered if he let off but when I flashed by brake lights to signal I was slowing down, he flashed his headlights acknowledging me slowing down. I never thought that I had a chance against a vette let alone without the nitrous but my baby made me proud and won 3-4 and would have gotten that 4th one if we would have went longer. I don't know who he was but we both acknowledge each other and the good races and went our seperate ways. I got home and checked the bottle pressure, it was nearly completely empty with hardly any pressure (about 450) So, moral of story, never though my car was that fast, but I guess it is. I guess when you daily drive 400 hp natural and over 500 nitrous fed, it just feels slow. I love people that aren't afraid to have fun but at the same time, I love peoples' faces when you show them that your 13000 dollar car is more powerful and faster in a straight line then their 50 to 60000 dollar ride. My hat is off to whomever that was and if you read this, then please correct me if I am wrong on anything. Nice car by the way.

Good job.

I love the bang for the buck the LS1 cars are. My best moment was beating an Acura NSX. Guy seemed a bit pissed off he lost in his $90,000 car.

Nice kills. Sounds like good fun :)

Good job.

The NSX is really nothing more than a status symbol. They are a complete joke, any vehicle costing 90 Grand with only 290HP (or an even more ridiculous 252 with the auto) is pathetic. The NSX gets owned in every category by the Corvette, which costs exactly half as much. The Vette is faster, handles better, looks nicer, and it just a much better car overall.

Anyone who buys an NSX obviously has more money than smarts

:bs: this doesn't explain how you have 400hp without nitrous and over 500 on a stock block with nitrous?

There are other things done that not everyone needs to know about. I like to keep somethings to myself that are done. It has been dynoed natural so I know the natural rating is accurate. The nitrous was just a guess. And the time was 12.86 @ 124

I have a stock 6spd vert SS(rated at 335) and there is this guy around here with an NSX and he's talking big shit like his car is fast(faster than EVERYTHING).

by the way he only got it because of the money won from court when his xgirlfriend ran over him.

Just because of his big head, I want to dust him, think I can do it?

ahem, today I pretty much confirmed my clutch is slipping in first. it only happens when I give it lots of gas like I'm supposed to do, but it depends. If I rev up to say 3000 - 3500rpms then pop the clutch then I launch like crazy and just fly, but say I kinda (granny) it like they say then get on the gas then my clutch doesn't come all the way up until I get out of the gas more.

I talked to a guy at speed inc. and he told me that I can put an ls7 clutch on there with a ls7 flywheel and add new hydrolics and he said that I would have a larger capacity on my tranny with those parts. He also said that they cost the same as stock parts!

So racing in my car is a little tricky for the moment.

but, I am coming for that nsx! Just wait till I get my tranny hooked up

nah, sold it. I do plan on redoing some of the appearance mods though. This time I'm going to be doing LOTS of performance upgrades too. I'm just glad I have a head start with it being an SS and all. I really like the handling

i still don't think you get why people buy the SS cars...they're collectors and should be minimally appearance modified. plz take our advice, junk all those damn stickers, and just get some sweet Z06 rims, tints, and black-outs. if you put an aftermarket hood, spoiler, or body kit on the car, no one will look at it the same again. if i saw an SS with that hood, kit, and decals, I'd just laugh and think, "why did that riced v6er put SS badges on that?" we're all just giving you advice to help you out, and it will be something you regret in the future, cuz no1 will wanna buy an SS modded like that.

Says who?! I know it is a collectors car, but that just makes it extra special to me!

"plz take our advice, junk all those damn stickers, and just get some sweet Z06 rims, tints, and black-outs."

That's the typical thing to do. It looks pretty good but, it may as well be stock if it looks like everybody elses with the mods you mentioned.

"if you put an aftermarket hood, spoiler, or body kit on the car, no one will look at it the same again"

That's a good thing right?

That'll be until they here me start it up and here the modded ls1 underneath. by the way I think I'm over the decals.

That six in my avator is my old car which I already sold to get my SS. Some1 just happened to want to pay $8,700 for a 2000 v6 with a salvaged title and 82,000 miles on it. One mans garbage is another mans treasure, ever heard of that? Actually that car was already salvaged before I got it so it was one mans v6 treasure to another mans v6 treasure. And who says that I'd want to sell this SS that I've been waiting all my life for? hahaha, I'm keeping it and I will have all the fun in the world with it!

Yea this time I don't plan on doing decals atleast not the flames, I may so some small ones.

By the way

yea that would be fucked up hahaha I only plan to get the body parts I have a feeling they may stop making. I plan on doing all kinds of upgrades to the performance though to make it faster and better all around. If I do stickers again I'll make sure I have no problem running with vipers before make myself look crazy.:nana:

Yes the 124 was on street tires and stock stall. That is fine. You can call bullshit, so why don't you just come to the track and watch? I will prove it once again to people that don't believe me. I have several witnesses and sadly no timeslip because at our midnight drag races in Tulsa. They don't give out slips for the midnights. Still, a vette is a vette. You know, the whole they are the fastest thing chevrolet puts out. I never thought that a modded camaro would do what mine does and draw as much attention as it does. But it does and I love nothing more than to prove people wrong who don't believe me. As for the eighth mile time on that run, no slip so I don't know. But I have got a slip with a smaller nos shot with ET Streets (pretty much wore out) 1.998 60 foot and the only different thing was the exhaust and I went 12.585 @ 120. The eighth mile was 99.154 MPH.

Yea, if you are as fast as you say why would you not think you could beat a c5 lol. That is an 11 second trap speed.

Also, an SS Camaro is not some crazy collector car lol. Its not hard to get, and it didnt cost that much. If he wants to make it look better its his choice. I personally love the stock SS hood and wing, would definately tiny and change some lenses and lower it... maybe G effects and definately rims.

Have fun with it, do what you want. Thats all that matters, there is always someone that can smoke you and laugh at ya so dont worry about it.

I hate to be a skeptic, but your #s don't match up.......sorry. With 12.5 @ 120, your trap would be in the 2.2-2.4 range. Post a vid.

Because I have always seen vettes as very fast cars. Never once did I think something that cost as little as my camaro did, would keep up or even beat it. I know it is an 11 second trap speed, but without a stall and tyres, I am still slower than most stock 6 speed vettes. Not Z06 just base model is in the 12.5-12.8 range. Or that is at least what I was told. Especially without the bottle.

As for the numbers go, I know they don't match. That is why I did 3 back to back runs and the times were 12.65 @117.005 12.77 @118.651 12.72 @118.423
Trap? I assume 60 foot. I slip the tyres when it shifts to 2nd and sometimes 3rd.

As far as a video goes, if I don't have a slip or anyway to prove it besides the witnesses then I don't have a video. If i did I would just post it and be done with all the argueing back and forth about whether or not I am telling the truth.

am i missing something? first it's 124 mph. then it's 118? my black car has just about the same mods with a 3400 converter, stock TB and MAF. also, you dyno'ed 400 rwhp NA? stock motor? no cam? no heads? no headers? i'm at 308 rwhp. so, this part is hard for me to buy.

You need to read all the posts and read carefully. As I stated earlier, the car has modifications done to it that not everyone needs to know about. Ok, I went back and read them and realized I lefted out that the 3 back to back runs where on a different setup then the first run. The last setup was with 100 horse shot. The three back to back runs. The original setup was with the 125 shot. The 124. Hopefully that clears things up. If not, then just discredit me. I am tired of argueing about it. If you want to see it, I am more than happy to go to the dragstrip to show anybody. I live in Oklahoma and go to tulsa to run.

now you see where we have issues. i understand that having dome so much to the car, you can get things jumbled up. i have two cars. i also understand you don't want to tell everyone what all you have. we are a pretty smart bunch of people here and are willing to help out anyone. so, when things don't add up, we'll question you about it. you can say you have a cam. you don't have to tell us which cam it is.

98Z-28Camaro

Ok, I never thought of that. The car has a cam, head work, and an intake. I apologize to everybody for getting a little excited earlier and I appreciate everyones knowledge and opinions. Sometimes I just take them the wrong way.
