View Full Version : Just got back from the dyno today. How do these numbers look?
I just got my 2001 Pontiac Trans Am dynoed on a Dynojet dyno. It is a bone stock automatic 3.23 geared car. It has the stock air filter and exhaust on it. I had two dyno runs. My best was 296.1 rwhp 318.4 torque SAE numbers. My STD factor numbers were 302.6 rwhp 325.3 torque. I would like to know if these are good numbers for my car. I ran my car a few weeks ago and it ran a 13.5 103 mph 2.08 60 ft on street tires in 83 degree weather with a little wheel hop. Do you think it is possible to run a little quicker at the track with some drag radials:slash: and some supspension work judging by my dyno numbers. Also, will a SLP air lid, and a hooker catback exhaust put me over 300 rwhp SAE numbers. Thanks everybody.:slash: [

I think those numbers are on par. Of course you'll run quicker with drag radials. I would also say 100% yes to the lid and catback puttin you over 300rwhp easy. Were only talkin 4 hp here. You could do free mods to get there also. Your auto would even do better at the track with a torque converter.

Healthy normal numbers for a stock LS1....now start modding....Hooker Cb is a nice 1st mod, get yourself a lid and some SFC also

better than my formula did. 276 rwhp 284 rwtq ran 13.60 @ 101.66 all stock.

Not bad numbers, like stated above, 300 is a low goal, so it'll be easy to hit. Do the FRA and shave the lid-ridges, pull the baffles out and put a smooth bellow in and you'll be over 300. Throw on a lid and a cat-back and you'll be around 315, LTs, ory/x and you'll be well over 330. I'd also suggest a stall, but since I'm an M6 guy, I can't really give advice on that. Oh, get some SFCs too, They'll really stiffen things up for you.

Those look like good numbers to me. The autos tend to dyno a little less then the manual tranny cars, but run better at the track on the average.

You can dowload some free software and run all kinds of different calculations so you will know about what to expect: www.virtualengine2000.com/draglist.htm

You're absolutely right. If you know the RWHP (like off a dyno) you can estimate the engine (flywheel) HP for comparative/baseline/improvement or other purposes. The usually accepted real wheel hp loss factors are 12% manual and 18% automatics or RWHP/.88 = Engine (flywheel) HP manual, and RWHP/.82 = Engine HP (flywheel) automatic. Many just use 15% for both which is not fair to the manuals and is generous to the autos, because autos experience greater drive train loss than manuals.
