View Full Version : Streetglow on a T/A

I was wondering about putting the streetglow kit on my T/A, the one that does the 7 diff. colors and audio n all that stuff. Anyone done that before and now how it holds up. It's like 260 bux for some tubes of light so i'de like to know how someone else's worked out before i buy. 99% sure those are illegal on the roads too, anyone know how big the ticket is?

I think you would get a bigger ticket for driving without a lisence seeing as how it says you are 15.
Street glow belongs on a honda imo.... and yes it is illegal on the street because it is distracting to other drivers. Probably a $100 or so ticket

A) Don't put streetglows on a T/A. :)
B) The first ticket might not be much, or you might even get off with a warning... but repeated offenses are only gonna hurt you in the end.
C) It's illegal in most states to put "moving" lights or lights that change color on your car.
D) Don't put streetglows on a T/A. :)

I'm with Kyle...WTF?? your only 15. BTW I have a "blue line" undercar kit and has held up for almost 2 years. I hardly ever turn them on, only when at shows or to make fun of imports.

I agree, what's going on, did you put in the wrong year, or are you just hanging out with the big boys? I seem to be voicing my opinion on this a lot lately, but I say don't do it, save the money and put it towards life insurance; a kid about to turn 16 with a T/A waiting for him... you'll be in the papers real soon, and it'd be nice if your untimely death gave your parents enough money to go back to school and learn why you shouldn't spoil your kids with bad ideas. :nono: There's been a lot of talk in law about raising the driving age to 18; knowing that there are 15 & 16 year olds out there behind LS1s playing with their neon lights.... can't say I think it's a bad idea.

My parents made me wait until I was 20 before I got my first Z-28. Three f-bodies later, I am still here. Don't know if i would be able to say that if would have started at 15. Having grown up in the country, I needed to be able to drive as early as possible but I agree the ideal age, though not fiesable in today's world, would be 17-18. Lets hope he put the wrong age in.

I'm 17 now and was 16 when I got my Z28 paid for half of the 13500 up front and have just about paid the other half back to my parent's. I started driving legally when I was 14 and have only ever been in one accident and that was due to the road conditions, but I would like to add a lot of responsibility comes with these cars you have to know how to control the power, or you will end up dead or worse killing someone else.
oh yeah streetglow would look gay buddy

Hey now, don't group us all together. I'm 17 and have been driving my 01 Ws6 for some time now without any problems. While most young drivers shouldn't be anywhere near an LS1, it's stupid to say that ALL shouldn't.
Oh yeah, to the OP, please do not put neons on a TA. If you do, I think a cult of us are going to find you an drill holes in your nuts so you can't spawn more beings that would ruin a beautiful LS1 with ricer neons.

I know that all young drivers aren't bad, and they won't all lead to the same outcome... But the vast majority fall into that category. Congratulations on being an acceptance, but look at your friends and tell me how many of them possess the same responsibility behind the wheel. "Drivers between the ages of 16 and 18 are ten times more likely to be in an accident."

Well i can go ahead and say that the neon idea is horrible. THey where made for rice because they dont have the "go" so they make it up with what they think is show. I cant comment much on the young driver situation since i got mine a month before my 16th birthday. I learned to handle the power quickly though, b/c i learned to drive in a turbo volvo, so i had a vague familiarity with power, granted its nothing like an ls1, but i had a better start than a kid that learned to drive in an astro van then gets a TA. My parents just bascially told me 1 speeding ticket and its gone. they also said no radar detector. It worked, ive had one "warning." (because the cop was more interested in the car than the speed, welcome to SC!) That doenst mean that i dont play with the car, because i was also taught how to do that by my dad. HE wasnt about to let me loose in that Z without showing me how to handle the power. The way i view it, (and the way i talked my parents into letting me get teh car) is that speed is in your blood. If your going to go fast, then nothings going to stop you. Personally i would rather have this kid go fast in a car thats built to go fast. Not some blazer that shakes above 75mph

tell me how many of them possess the same responsibility behind the wheel Well that is true, I can only think of one of my friends that I would let drive my car, he has a 2000 gtp, and has raced IMCA dirt track since he was 15, the rest are just idiots that think that there v6 pickups and such are fas, they have no idea.

ha ha ha.... i tried that excuse with my parents when i turned 16... didnt work out too well for me... and since my truck woulnt handle so well (even with a 3" front/4" rear drop and sway bars) i had to learn to go fast for 1000 feet... well and how to powerslide so i could keep up with my buddy in his gt stang through the twisties... they should have just gotten me a car that would handle...
i dont think parents realize that the person with the fastest car is really in the least amount of danger since he doesnt have to push his car to the limits to get the same feeling as the ppl in the metro trying to keep up...
nor do they understand a camaro will get to 100 faster than a civic... but if you want to run 100 your gonna do it in the civic too... its not like a civic wont go lethal speeds...

neons = way too much money for the tackiness. they are as annoying as those kids who put on strobe lights on their cars to speed through traffic and have ppl pull over (had an encounter once, acted like i was gonna play chicken with him).
btw good job in getting a TA at that age. there's a shitload of responsibility and learning with it. I got my Z28 4 months before I was 18 and I did some pretty stupid things before I learned what to do and what not to do. My first "drift" with it wound up being a 360 cuz I thought it'd be cool to give it too much gas. Also a lot of peer pressure from people my age pushed me into doing things I normally wouldn't do (i.e. doing a 155 MPH convoy on the highway with 3 other friends that had f-bodies).
Just learn not to follow what people tell you to do and feel comfortable doing it first. Don't get too cocky though, cuz that happens and you'll slam into a tree. The best learning experience I had to know how to control my Z in out-of-control situations was in snow or ice and I'd just give it too much gas and get the feel of how it is when your making a turn with your rear at a 45 degree angle. Even to this day I don't feel secure doing anything, but that's what saved me from wrecking my car.
Looking back my senior year, 2 out of every 3 new drivers got into an accident that year and/or totalled their car. There were people who went through like 3 cars in 9 months. Just be safe, and keep in mind that it's your money invested in the car, and if you wreck it you might as well burnt the money. Also, someone telling you to do something stupid wouldn't if he had some investment in your car. My bro said once, when he had his Firebird at 17 and someone asked him to do a burn-out, he said give him $1000 for new tires then. Makes sense.
Drive good and you'll see insurance drops too btw. Mine went from $4400 to $2000 in a year and 1/2. Another kid my age went from $4000 to $6500 because of many tickets. Good luck, don't kill yourself.

Got my license at 16... drive two different saturns, got my 02 Z28 before I turned 17. The first winter with the car I slid into a small tree (the street was basically a skating rink), did about 700 in damage I hit it at about 3-5mph tops. You do need to know how to handle it but sometimes its unavoidable. I dont drive the Cam in snow/rain any more. Got my version of rice (acura TSX) and use that to get around in. Im 21 now so 4 years in the Camaro being young and im still alive lol. Don't bash the kid about age, hopefully if he earned the money and car he will respect it. But, by all means, bash the kid on the neons. They arent even cool with rice much anymore lol.

i had $ to waste so i got a multi color street glow kit.... doesn't look bad IMO.. it's brighter than any of the kits i've seen on cars around here. they stay one color, you can make them change, do a ton of patterns either solid color or changing... if i use them on the road i usually leave it on red or green. i was pulled over for having my white lights on cause the state trooper said they looked blue.. anyways.. do what you want... i put mine on cause i got bored one night i dont really want to chop up the HD like my last TAs yet =)

i got my first Z28 at 17, was the first manual i had driven and picked it up in less than a week, only ever stalled it once, did some upgrades and had about 350hp. learned to be responsible with it quick. yea trying to make a turn in heavy rain with ultra high performance summer street tires is just a disaster waiting to happen. I hate driving these cars when it rains. Unfourtunatly i was forced to once in heavy rain cuz my winter driving truck was broken down. Was headed to have a one year anniversery date with my gf and was doin less then 45 on the freeway trying to stay safe, and headed to pick her up. Some stupid ricer :dot: was goin near 90 in the fast lane started hydroplaning and slid sidways into my car and pushed me off the freeway into a 20 ft ravine. damn scariest thing in the world to be dodging trees and cars as you have no control over your car due to lack of traction.

This is my bottom line...
While some you/first time drivers may have the maturity of being a responsible driver of a 300+ hp car, the vast majority are not. Everyone but the most ignorant person will agree with this.
I don't care if some driver goes out and totals his/her $20,000+ sports car; wraps it around a tree, telephone pole, or flys off the road doing 120mph. What I do care is getting killed or having a loved one get killed by a driver who should have never been driving that car in the first place. We all can quote statistics until we're blue in the face, drivers 15-19 (not all) are the worst drivers on the road, until we star talking about drivers in their 70's and 80's. Personally, I'm all for parents having the option of monitoring their kids driving habits via GPS tracking (Discrete Wireless).

This is 100% true, i go to high school and Ive seen this firsthand. I wont say its the ricers, I wont say its the hot rodders, I wont even say its the rednecks with the muddy skyjacked trucks. Its the majority of the student body. For example, two kids in they're "fixed-up" eclipse decided that since it was an automatic that it would be fun to get out of the car and leave it in drive with the motor running. That was hilarious until I realized these people have our lives in thier hands. but it only gets worse, as a teenage driver with an LS1, people already have a certain hatred towards drivers like me because of the aformentioned idiots. I get cut-off, flicked off, and basically run off the road by people because they view ME as irresponsible I dont konw if its just around here, I dont know if its because the car makes me look rich, I dont know at all. So thier really is no way to make this situtation better for anyone until we start making ALL drivers take IQ tests. Even then, we still just need to watch out.

Congrats on the car man I had my first oe young too. Never had a wreck yet. I would make sure of a few things if you get a kit..
1. Make sure the tubes are not visible at all and are hidden well under the car but placed so you see the light well on the ground. The ones you see the tubes hanging down with look like shit.
2. I wouldnt get neon. Get the led tubes now. There alot brighter, last a helluva lot longer and are more durable less change of breakage. If you got four tubs I think it would look good .. the two short ones one in front and one in back and then the two long ones going down the sides

ok first of all anybody who puts street glow on any fbody is just a moron. don't ruin the american muscle legacy with that nonsense. ricers need it for attention because they don't have any horsepower. Secondly i had a Z28 from the day i turned 16 until i was 18, now that im 19 i bought my second fbody a 99 SS m6. yes they can get you in trouble. kid from my school got paralyzed from the waist down street racing his SS. Have some will power and self control when you get revved on the street by a rustang or rice. do youself a favor and keep it at the track.
The Scientist

Unfortuantly, 285LT1, a large majority of people do not have access to a track. I know I didn't growing up and still have to drive nearly an hour to get the to nearest one. What then??? As you mentioned, they become paralyzed from the waist down!!!
On another note, personalizing one's own vehicle does not make him/her a "moron". Most of the general public won't know how much hp your car makes but they will notice apperance mods like hoods, wings, and paint jobs/strip kits. Neons fit into the latter catagory. I have gotten 10X more comments/compliments on my WS6 hood, anniversy stripes, or undercar neon kit than the fact that my car is putting over 350hp to the pavement and runs mid 12's in the 1/4.
Also, it is not only rice that has neons. So do motorcycles, jacked up 4x4's, Escalades, and hydralic hoopties.

ok first of all anybody who puts street glow on any fbody is just a moron. don't ruin the american muscle legacy with that nonsense.
and someone who talks and thinks like you do is a bigger moron. if you can't respect what some people do to their car, then don't expect and respect back for what you do to yours.
i may not like ultra double decker stadium seating wings and 22" wheels with rubber band tires, but i respect the person so long as they themselves are the morons. i don't trash someone just because they have something on their car i don't care for. might behoove you to rethink your way of perception.
i see two kinds of people. ricers and racers.
ricers = those who do all the ultra tacky thinks to their car and THINK they have an untouchable race car.
racers = those who do the things to do have a fast car and have done some of the appearance things they want.
this is regardless of car make. i used to think like you. guess it's age.

Damn whats up with all the kids getting V8 power LoL. Im 24 and have bad credit so all I could get was a V6 :flex: oh well LoL. I dont see a problem with it though if you have a heavy foot you could be driving a old mini van 100 easily. Congragulations on the power (I wish I had it) Just be carefull and dont do anything to stupid. And I say if you like the neons then go with them and dont worry about what other people think its your car so make it how you want. Hell I have people that tell me not to do anything to my car because its a V6 and they say im wasting my money......the hell with them. And when I get my sc (and other mods) and can keep up with a stock z28 they will still say it was a waste because if it was a LS1 with all that money in it would be alot faster......so you have to always do what you like and forget other peoples opinions cause there like assholes everyone has 1.

Alot of you guys need to chill the fuck out. You can tell who the real enthusiests are, and who are not.
A real enthusist will not bash on other cars unless they are just completely redonculous. I'm talking tercell driving on two donuts, big ass aluminum wing, cracked windshield etc. etc.
I true car lover can respect and LOVE Mustangs, Camaros, Vettes, and Imports for what they are.
I never really liked the guys that sat there and bashed on others cars because it wasn't what "they liked."
If the kid likes neons, let him have them. I personally think they can look very very good if done right. Then again, you can go WAY over the top. I also don't agree with driving on the highway/free way with them, it's too distracting. Parking lots, car shows, and to be flashy around your friends is cool and great.
Like I said, if half of you were the true car enthusists you all say you were, then you could respect the import as much as you do your Camaro. You could appreciate a Mustang the same way you like to see old Camaros. You could even enjoy seeing the jacked up, swampin' trucks.
I grew up in a family that hated Dodge/Chrysler. But if a Charger/Challenger/Cuda rolled by, they'd praise the driver and talk cars. They may give a little hassle just to shoot the shit, but it's all in good fun. I come from a long line of car lovers. My dad owns a 65 C20 truck, and a 70 Chevelle. My brother has a jacked up, throaty, swampin' Toyota Tundra. And oddly enough, my mother drives a Mini Cooper. And now I'm looking to buy an LS1 Camaro, and sell my old pride the 1980 Camaro.
I love the cars we have, they are completely differnt in every way, but they're unique and each do differnt things a bit better. I wouldn't drag the Chevelle with the Mini, but I sure as hell wouldn't try to out corner the Mini in the Chevelle.
I think some of you guys need to grow the fuck up.

Peace guys.

I'm not calling it rice or stupid, like I said before. But when I see guys driving around with them on, I have to wonder why you need that kind of attention.
Seriously fellas, what's going through your head when you turn them on?
i do it for the deaf people. they can't hear me, so i have to get their attention somehow.

If you want looks, go for some stripes. If I were you, I would put the money towards a cat-back.

Hey kid im not saying you shouldnt be driving the trans am becase im also 16 and im bout to drop an LS1 in my car. But there was somthing u forgot to think about when you bought it. Thats the neon lights. You have a fucking trans am which is a real car and why would u want to turn it into a little poser toy car. There is something you and everyone should see. Go to google.com and click on movies and type in ls1 and look for a video from ricekiller.com titled jared makes fun of camaro ss ricer or somthing like that and tell me if you still want the neons

i thought about it realllllllllllly hard an put neons on both cars. and i like how my poser toy cars look. according to you, i don't have a 'real' car now because of them? the whole ricekiller.com is a farce. jared didn't get enough attention at home. i watched it. i still have the neons on both cars.

It's one thing to get other's opinions on somthing you want to do. We all do this from time to time. If you decide not do a particular mod, make sure it's because of a good reason (e.g. putting 22" wheels on a Camaro), not just because someone else says it looks totally stupid and you'd be a complete idiot for doing it.
Sure I've had some people on the board make hater comments (ricer ones) about my interior LEDs. I think the lights look great. Plus everyone, and I mean EVERYONE, who's seen the lights in person has told me they look bad-ass.
Bottom line, as it has been said over and over again, it's your car. Do what you want to it. I did.
