I have a 350 in my '70 firebird. I cant find a whole lot of information on 350 build ups. The only thing i can find is the 620hp build up in a car craft magazine. I dont want to have to spend that much money though. They said $7k for the baisic kit which obviously isnt 620hp. What other options do i have? I want to build the motor but i would like to see other build ups with dyno charts so i know what parts to go after. What do you think?

whay type of hp are you looking for?? If you are going after REAL hp, and you are doing a complet rebuild better to go with a 400..

I have a 69 Firebird 350 and you could do an engine build up by putting on headers, changing the cam, and other small mods to the engine to make it faster, if you do simple mods, it won't cost as much but it won't get you to 620 horsepower.

I have a 78 TA with a 400. I took it to a local engine rebuilder and had a complete rebuild to stock specs for $3000. I drove it in and drove it out, they did everything in between.

Ponchos cost more to build than a Chevy ... But you get better trq with them ....

You should buy Jim Hand's book "How to Build Max-performance Pontiac V8s" to learn about Pontiac engines. VERY informative.
From what I got from the book- think of the pontiac 350 as the equivelent of the chevy 305. In layman's terms- the displacement/ internal combinations, etc just aren't there for efficient power making.
Go with a Pontiac 400 as reccomended above (they say you can stroke that out to a larger displacement than the 455 and it's a stronger bottom end.)

do not stick a BBC in it please, the 350 poncho is a torquey engine, I'm not going to go through every scenario of building one, because I've built many, I will say that a properly built pontiac 350 can yield over 500hp, and 600ft./lbs. of torque, check out this site. www.pontiacengines.com scroll down and look at the westech dyno results, scroll down until you read about the the 2 350s with a 7.4:1 CR making over 350hp the other makes over 400hp and alot of torque.
