I just got a custom Y pipe built for my car and it is hitting under the driver side when I take off in 1st gear or get on it. What can I put between pipe and the car to make it not rattle. I wedged a shop rag in there for now, but I am looking for something heat resistant to put there. I was thinking about a high heat rubber spacer or something like that. I already tried heating it up and bending it down some. That didn't work.
Does anyone have any ideas on what I can use?

mind use to do this, u need to get under there and just make adjustments to the exhaust and maybe try moving the hangers around that might fix the problem also

Use space age heat resistant foam. developed by NASA. LOL
Na just kiding, but I'm pritty sure there probably some kind of foam product you can wedge in there.

I believe Texas Speed Shop has a y-pipe hanger that is about $50 dollars that is made to fix the problem. I had that problem with mine and just adjusted it, but worst case scenario there is a hanger to fix it.

In addition to the methods listed above, the following work to varying degrees:
1. Poly motor mounts
2. Welding a valve spring in between
3. Heater hose

Well you would need a stiffer tranny mount but that is gonna give you a vibration.
Don't know about a valve spring you might need to remove it and it will still vibrate.
The heater hose I tried that and it still hit and made a noise.

Like I said..."varying degrees". Poly motor mounts will more than likely solve any y-pipe banging problem. On the other hand, a heater hose, a valvespring, TSP's Y-pipe hanger, are all just band-aids.
