define what you mean by effort? If you are going to take your whole catback off then its not. but if you want to spend 50 dollars and have a cutout welded in then yes, it would be worth it.

Open headers might help upper rpm power -but will kill off low rpm power. Since you have to launch at lower rpm with most of these cars (2-3,000) you will need the broader power band of the full exhaust. Just my guess without knowing everything about what you're doing.

Install a cutout. I took off my flowmaster catback and installed a 12-inch glass pack that dumps right before the rear axle and it sounds so much better and runs a heck of a lot harder. It sounds so much better. :)

Throw the Flowmaster in the trash and buy a good catback.

def not worth the effort
Made the mistake of installing my 2&half'' cutouts in my cat replacement pipes. Think reversion caused a miss in first gear that sounded like a stutter box! Too close to the front o2 sensors. I put a 4'' system on and dont worry about the cutouts anymore but, would install an elect. dump before going over the axle on a 3' system.

a 4 inch exhaust is overkill unless youre making silly horsepower.
adding a dump is a waste of time.
I have lofty goals. Do u run cats @ the track? Mine runs quicker without. Muffler when racing? Not me. Who needs the backpressure? I grafted a 12" by 4" pipe to the SLP 3" Y pipe and run it open. No exhaust past that point while racing and no codes. There's alot of volume @ 6 grand.
I trailer to the track. But if I didn't... cutout4me.
On the street with full exhaust (cats, over the axle and DynoMax 4" Race Muff) the sound is much sweeter and satisfying than the stock SLP dual dual.
Have u read the cutout article that IU has about cutouts?

I agree on the 4 inch but disagree on the dump. The dump made quite a bit more power and torque for myself.

I gained 18 hp with my cutout open compared to my old Flowmaster. I didn't believe it but I have the dyno sheet to prove. That gain was at peak in the high RPM range which is where you are at most of the time in the 1/4 mile.

+1 im with ya on that. hell, if youre not making a certain number 3 inch can cause some power loss.....not much though.

Go to the track with closed exhaust. Make a couple of passes. Record ET, conditions, etc. Open the exhaust. Make a couple of passes. Record ET, conditios, etc.
Or listen to all the people here and get 10 different opinions - 9 of them obviously wrong.
Good luck.
