Finally got the opportunity to race this kid with the SC SS, he has a pulley kit and exhaust and thinks it's the fastest car in town. So we line 'em up on a quiet highway and I let him launch first, just so he can't have an excuse for losing. So after he launches I stomp on the gas pedal, bust out sideways and pass him while I'm spinning, I fly by him and he gets farther and farther back in my mirror. I stopped around 130 and had a demanding lead. Right after that my buddy raced him with his 94 Z28 and stomped him pretty well, sad day for the cobalt, not to mention his car smelled like shit after we raced and was smoking badly.

Allot of the people round here that have SS Cobalts are that way also. And cant drive there cars either. I like running people like that!!! Good kill!!!!!

My friend's brother has one and we just put the Stage 1 and Stage 2 GMPP kit on it last night. All it needs now is to be tuned at a dealership and it should be pretty quick. A match for a modded F-Body though? :no:

That's exactly what I was thinking, but the funny thing was, everybody who was there thought it was going to be a close race. Except my buddy with the '94 z28 and myself of course.

The Cobalt is a great car for what it was designed for, but it's not competition for the LT1/LS1. I think that's only because of the choice of poweradder. The 2008 model should get the turbocharged Ecotec that is used in the Solstice GXP. Then things will get interesting. A turbo swap and you are dealing with a totally different animal. The little Eaton is not much of a threat compared to a GT30 or GT35R turbo.

why do you guys pick on your little brother. I have both cars, 00 camaro and an 06 sc ss cobalt. The cobalt is quick but runs a low 14 from the factory. The camaro ran a mid 13 from the factory.

It sounds like this kid that you raced didnt know how to drive. Because with his mods, you shouldnt have stomped him as bad as you did. Well wait a minute what are your mods???

I raced my cousins Cobalt SS Supercharged with the stage II kit. My 98 T/A only has filter and exhaust and I have the 273 gears. I pulled hard on him from a dead stop, and kept pulling past 100 mph. from a roll it was about the same. No chance for him...

I would love to have a Cobalt SS S/C (minus the ridiculous wing) to zip around town in. I'm sure it would get better fuel economy than my LS1, and its a hell of a lot smaller and more nimble.

They are by no means competition for an LS1 though, at least not stock anyway.

once again the kid obviously couldnt drive his car, because with the stage kit he should be running high 13's. And his 60' times should be better than yours. I can launch the shit out of my cobalt against ls1's. but where the lag is, is in 2nd gear.

Dont get me wrong, you should beat him in the quarter, but not that bad.

You cant estimate ETs based on mods. GM said my GTO would go from 0-60 in 4.8 sec, but every test puts them in the 5s. Everything based on HP alone is guess work, once you put a human behind the wheel all that goes out the window.

hey just cause hes 37 doesnt mean he can drive. anyway thats what I figured, that he didnt launch very well. The cobalts are 410 gears.

A stage 2 cobalt is dead even with a FULL BOLT ON LT1 with 3:73 gears to 100 then the cobalt pulls.

theres a crew of colbalts around here really nice lookin ones they are black, lowerd and the deleted the wings they look badass...one of them is a member on here that drives a BAD lookin ls1 z28:drool:....well they have cobalts with just stage 2 packages and they run 13.5-13.7 @ 105-107 mph

not saying i agree with the liar part...but a stage 2 coblalt ss vs a stock LT1 camaro z28 the cobalt will win everytime...even if the LT1 has exhaust work. stage 2 cobalts run 13 high to mid 13's but trap higher speeds

i have a 2004 gto w/ a 3200 stall converter, exhaust and 125 shot of juice. i raced one off the bottle and smoked his ass bad, so for shits and giggles we raced again and i sprayed on him. needless to say he just gave me the thumbs up and turned off. got to love the ls1

yea that does not suprise me those Ecotecs have a world of potiential...all the SRT-4 guys here are like they are 15 sec cars...i was patientlly waiting for someone to get a stage 2 kit and show the cars real potiential now everyone cant belive they run mid to high 13's and trap at high speeds....im waiting for someone to break into a 110 trap speed with the stage 2 kit:nana:

You should race the supercharged version not the 2.4 SS

You should race the supercharged version not the 2.4 SS

or he was stock, because you would have needed your bottle to "smoke his ass bad" since a stage 2 cobalt will run very close to a stock LS1 gto.
i know he has a smaller pulley, cold air set up and exhaust.

stage 2 full bolt on cobalt ss' or ion redlines are pretty fast cars low 13's to high 12's with dr's...but they look like crap and their trannys are garbage....from a roll there decent, yeah stock ones are pathetic...but they respond well to mods and are very underrated....go run one and you'll see...i raced a stage 2 redline with full bolt ons....beat em, but i was impressed

a full bolt on m6 lt1 w 4.10's will take a stage 2 cobalt with supporting mods and dr's....i know because i have done so...and a redline as well

My buddies LT1 definately killed the cobalt, even with a 250lb+ passenger. Why would I come here and lie? Like I care if a cobalt beat someone elses camaro.
