i have driven a saleen, and it was an auto, the thing quit on me when it reached about 80mph, and didnt have much power i thought. i thought my 99 z28 had much more power then the saleen

U'll take him, I got a buddy that has a 01 built mustang I raced him and bet him by a car that because he took off early. The stock built is a little faster then the gt, his is a 5speed coupe lighter then a drop top. I have a 02 Z auto. Both cars are stock for now. Put some money on it and ur friend will be cry after u run off and leave that mustang.

This is going to be a pretty embarrasing "race". A GT automatic convertible.....that's like a 14.6-14.8 second car. Your's is probably a 13.8 second car I'd imagine....maybe faster. Now figure how much distance something is covering going 100-103mph for a count of...one-thousand-one...

a stick vs an auto in this case doesnt matter, a stick ls1 vs a auto ls1, stick would win (driving properly) but you have so much more hp on him it wont be å*challenge, just make sure you dont get any wheel spin

The only stangs to worry about (if your running stock), are the Cobras. Those and Corvetts give me a little trouble in my V8 auto Camaro. About neck and neck, but I can't pass em. But just a reg. stang, heh heh,.. you'll smoke em :)! Esp. with a m5!! Unless he can shift like a SOB, you'll leave him at the light and about two to three car lenghts when he finally catches up to you ;). Now if he owned a Cobra, I'd say you have a fifty fifty chance. But since thats not the case, he's owned :). Do it!!

no its more like 221 to the ground. you figure a 15% drivetrain loss. so 15% of 260 is 39 and 260-39 is 221. and you figure a 99 z28. 15% of 310 is 46.5 and 310-46.5 is 263.5. and that is obviously an underrated hp by GM. because i know a stock Z28 puts 300 to the ground. so your lookin at 353 hp at the crank given the 15% drivetrain loss. i know the 15% is not accurate but its a norm for all RWD cars. 15% of 353 is 52.95 and 353-52.95 is 300.05 hp. but the GT could also be underrated but i doubt it.:lmao:

alright i can help your confidence here aswell, idiot in an '04 gt stick was messing with me in my '99 Z28 stock auto with some random exhaust i don't know. So i chased the guy down the road, turned onto a bigger one and from a 25-30 mph roll we both took off with me in the next lane but a car length back and i never saw him again after the pass. Oh yeah can't forget the punchline, i turned my traction control off and spun through 2nd and was passing him with my tires spinning and my car at an angle, not exactly straight lol.

just for reference i have an 04gt stick and its taken me intake, 75mm tb, intake plenum, offroad xpipe, catback and a tune to run with stock ls1 cars so you should have no prob. gts put down 235-240ish to the rear wheels stock but keep in mind a hard top only weighs about 3250-3300. so they do have a weight advantage. anyway, i am turning to the dark side, i just found a sweet 02 z28 with only 10k miles on it.

lol the GT is only competition for the V6 because GM specifically made it to beat the GTs. Now whether it actually beats them or if it just runs alongside is not really a matter but stilll... why mustang. I have nothing against ford/mustangs and i'd have to say the 03/04 cobra (whichever is blown) is friggin sick but you throw a supercharger in a stock LS1 non ram air it makes about 450 HP before bending rods and crap.

nobody's underestimating GT's. Stock LS1 will run 13.5 with a new exhaust system, I just don't care much for GT's. 4.0L V6 and a 4.6L V8... wtf there's supposed to be a difference between a V8 and V6 that's why the GT's have such a hollow sound. Chevy just makes motors with the best power per cubic inch.

i had an o2 gt! put down 235hp with flomo catback and k/n. 5sp. it ran 14.1 in the 1/4.
now i have a 99 z vert with chopped exhaust and a k/n. ran 13.8 in the 1/4 in the middle of summer after driving 1 hour to the track.
raced a guy the other might in a gt with headers and custom exhaust with 410 gears and intake. he still couldnt keep up with my heavy auto z vert. pretty sad for the ford boys to me.
