I like kills stories and would love to hear from others and their experiences w/ SRT-8s (NOT R/Ts or Daytonas, they don't count!). Finding a stock LS1 these days who wants to race is pretty rare, I'm sure.
1. Automatic LS1, tire/wheel package, solo driver, exhaust tips are hidden?? (unusual, I know). I have a passenger (225lbs!). We both go WOT after a turn onto a highway, I fumble w/ the autostick giving him an edge but run him down in 3rd gear passing by him. He won't look over as he turns at the next light.
2. This one is BARELY a kill. LS1 T/A, 6spd, tinted windows and tailights. We slow down on the highway and finally go at it after several attempts. In 2nd only briefly, he's a little ahead, shifts and pulls a little more. In 3rd I start passing him. It's pretty close and since 3rd is my gear in the 1/4 and my hp peak is at redline, it seemed fair. We both give a thumbs up/v-victory sign and go on our way.
OH! I think the GT was in the wrong gear and didn't want to rev his motor w/ the downshift. No objective, published 1/4 test gives the Z that much of an advantage, if any at all. Sorry, had to comment!

Not sure why my signature isn't showing but SRT-8s are not Neons. Those would be fwd SRT-4s. Not sure if you were joking.
My Charger is stock, 365rwhp, done in 3rd gear w/ 1500 miles on the odo.

It's a really large, heavy car (4160lbs) but has a great powertrain and a 5spd auto. The hp peak is at 6200rpm, redline, so it just keeps pulling.
Most owners are running low 13s w/ 108-110mph trap speeds. A few have dipped into the 12s, stock, on cool days w/ great 60fts. I.E. PERFECT conditions...

The Charger: Hood scoop (for cooling only), deeper, rectangular front skirt, 20", 5 spoke rims w/ red Brembo calipers, rear spoiler, badges. Only available in red, silver or black.
300C: Deeper front skirt, 20" rims (10 spoke?) w/ silver Brembos, very small rear deck lip, badges.

you said the GT may have been in the wrong gear, but you didn't talk about running a GT. Were you talking about one of the LS1s you ran, or another race all together.
Nice kills by the way. I like those SRT-8 Chargers. Nice looking 4-door. I'd be all over it if I needed a 4-door. Just no need right now.

Compared to what? If you want to make generalizations, I could say the exact same thing about F-bodies.
Let's see - runs low 13s w/ traps in the 108-110 range, .9 on the skidpad, 245/255 Goodyear F1s, handles as good as any mid/large 4door (faster than a STS-V and .1 sec and 1.5sec behind a CLS55 and M5 at Grattan, both 12sec cars), 1:58 at Laguna, stock, 170mph top end.
Oh, 245 F1s front, 255s rear. Yeah, pizza cutters, sure.
It's big, it's bulky, but is sure isn't slow.

when i drove it, it felt slow to me, but i have not had a stock F bod it a while. im not a fan of 4 doors, and i felt like i was so small in the big car and im a big guy 6'1" 230. just didnt feel right to me for a sports car, i have no doubts its fast.
but imagine if it was a 2 door
I'd love to have a 300C SRT-8, but at nearly $50k I don't think it's going to happen. Not that I think that is too much money, it's a steal for what you get. I just don't have it to spend.

I'm guessing it probably will be, unfortunately. If history holds true, the SRT-8s start in the high 30s and so it will too. And the Challenger SRT-8 will have limited production volume as well which won't help. Oh well.

First good kill, it always feels good to win.
However, racing LS1's probably isnt a good judgement of how fast an SRT-8 is seeing you have a 70 horsepower advantage (420HP vs 350HP-LS1 GTO reference)to make up for weight. So you should probably race an LS2 powered corvette or GTO to get a better feel.
But the SRT-8 is very nice, and looks great. But for 45,000 that's kinda steep, at least for me. But with an extra 15,000 dollars a LS1 would blow an SRT-8 away. I wanted to race those HEMI 300C's and Chargers but just havent had a chance. Oh well, the cam, exhaust and tune will happen in 2 weeks so they lost their chance to catch me slipping.
Nice car once again.

I greatly appreciate it, thanks! I agree somewhat. The Charger forum had a hot debate about LS-1s actually making closer to 370-385hp and some running 12s stock. Either way not many are stock and I'm always up for a race. I think a C5 6spd would be the closest race and there is a big rivalry w/ the GTOs.
Fully loaded at $43.5 makes a pretty nice, luxurious car but no question, $15k on ANY car takes it into the 12s or faster. Mine just happens to have a serious weight penalty which means it will always have that disadvantage.
And needing a 4door, thank goodness I didn't get an Evo or STi, right?!!??

if stock, ls1's won't win against a stock srt8, that's just fact. Their has been some, mainly f-bodies that dyno around 320-325 to the wheels.
its good tho that you didnt choose a sti or evo, just not as nice IMO.

I want to throw my 2cents in. I looked at the SRT8 and the GTO and I thought that the GTO looked like an Accord with wheels that were way too small for the side of the car. I fell in love withthe SRT*, but the down payment I would have made on it paid for a WS6 and have a very nice, fast car. It gets the same gas mileage and you can't tell the difference in HP. I am happy. Now if only I could get a LS6 in there.....I got 321 to the wheels with 338 ft lbs. It'll do for now.

Whatever you like is what you like. Personally the newer f-bodies from 93-on aren't visually appealing to me and lack style because its just a pointed front end with a round back, and the interior in all f-bodies are disappointing as well but that's just my opinion. Apparently both f-bodies and GTO's aren't that appealing or they would still be making them. But just about any car can be saved with aftermarket products to change the look and make it your own. It's just if you are willing to have the manufacturer do it, and that's why the SRT-8 costs so damn much, but looks bitchin.
But do you really think a GTO looks like an accord? not even close. And the interor is immaculate compared to any f-body. I do agree that the wheel wells don't accomadate for wider wheels. a few pics are attached to show some good GTO pics. The blue one is mine, but the camera sucks so its kinda blury.

I looked at an 04 GTO when the Mustang was on order. It was red on red and man I loved that interior. The only thing that I didn't like were the knobs for the HVAC controls but everything else was top notch.

yeah, actually my choice was between the Goat and the GT, but the price and what i got for the price is what sold me. I got mine with 10,000 miles for 23,000 and it came leather,200 watt 6 disc cd changer and radio, matching gauges, 350hp and m6 tranny vs. for a 05 GT fully loaded i would be at $30,000 so i went with the Goat.

My GT was 29K with every option but the slushbox auto. I got leather, 1000W 6disk mp3 stereo, 125 color guages(more of a toy, I set it to one color and it hasn't changed), 100K warranty. I could have bought the goat for the same price (sticker was 33K) but wanted the Legend Lime color. If the car had been blue on blue like yours, the decision would have been much harder. It seems like every car I see is either red or black and I wanted something that would stand out. I really like your car.

Entirely different drivetrain and suspension package.
R/Ts and Daytonas are 5.7s, 340-350hp.
SRT-8s are 6.1s, 425hp, beefed up internals (rods, crank, oil squirters, sodium filled valves, etc) and axles.
Bilsteins front, Sachs Nivomats rear, 20" wheels w/ big Brembos on Goodyear F1 Supercar tires. That set-up is probably more significant than the hp upgrade.

Nice kills and nice car.
Id love to have raced you when I had just lid,catback...:firedevil
It wouldnt be fair or even a race at this point.
Although I just had another child and I was considering a new 300c srt8. I need something roomy and fast. May wait for a good deal on a charger.
How much did you pay for yours?

anyone see the episodes of dream car garage where they did the hemi challenge?
they did a whole bunch of upgrades to the srt8 charger : suspension, supercharger, intake, etc. After they were done upgrading the car they did a performance test. The srt8 stock did mid 13's and after the upgrades it still ran in 13's :dunno:
I guess my question is why isnt it running better with the blower and other stuff on it?

Although I definitely agree with you, it really does depend on the driver though...

Waiting to run one of these cars. :yup:
I got a 300C with the Hemi. Not sure which model. Murdered it, so probably the lower HP car.

Wow, I didn't think they'd be that fast with all that weight.
Your right their not that fast. I raced a srt-8 charger just this weekend and pulled almost a full car length in first then when I hit second I started really pulling away. It was not even close. All I have is a TB, MAF, LID and exhaust on a 2002 ws.6. The funny part was he begged me to race. I guess someone is telling these guys that they have the hottest thing going, and they really believe it until they actually race. The guy I raced was truly suprised that My TA beat him. He acted like he had been mislead by the dodge dealer. Oyeah he had a catback system and a bunch of stickers in his windows. I guess that heavy car eats all that horsepower up. The guy was nice enough and didnt try to come up with any excuses. Anyway just wanted to set things straight speaking from real life experience.

maf,lid,exhaust=12 second LS1.
Excuses dont do any good when you drive an automatic its all up to the car unless he raced from a dead spot he couldnt have any.
DOes not mean his car is slow just means your is fast.
Are you sure it was a 425 HP package?Wasnt a 345 hp one? I have no doubt you won, but to say its slow?

I saw that too. I think they did a lousy job tuning it, obviously. Probably didn't do anything for fuel delivery. Plus they showed from a handling and braking standpoint they couldn't improve what was already pretty well dialed in. It was a stupid episode.
To answer another question, I paid sticker (most do), $43.5k. Included power & heated seats, roof, nav, blue tooth, Boston Acoustic sound system w/ Kicker amp, Sirius for 1 year, dual zone climate control, alarm, side airbags, etc. etc. Fully loaded.

I guess I should have phrased that different. I know that his car is not slow just not as fast as I was lead to believe. It was the SRT-8 and it was closer than what I made it sound like. I raced a R/T Charger also at a stoplight. It was not even close. So there is a huge difference in the two. I didnt mean to cut down his car, I'm just real happy with mine.
