I have a 2000 Z28 . I have a problem with the radio and power windows. While driving the car and listing to the radio all of a sudden the radio will go off and the power windows will stop working. Then about 1 min or less the power comes back on and the radio will work and the windows will work. My mechanic thought he fixed the problem by replacing the ignition switch under the dash. This did not correct the problem. Please help!!! Any advice is greatly appreciated We have been working on this for about 3 weeks now and have still not found a solution. So any help would be wonderful!!

I have the same problem in my son's 2001 Camaro. I have researched it and it appears to be the relay in the Body Control Module (BCM). The BCM controls several functions such remote door locks and security system.

The BCM is located behind the glove compartment (in the dash). Not hard to get at, but fixing it is another story. It is programmed to match the resistor in the ignition key. It can only be programmed once. While it can be replaced, the procedure is complex, and again can only be done once, so if you screw it up the unit will be no good.

You may be able to find one at a junkyard, but you will need the original
key(s) that match the BCM to make to work.

I would recommend first checking all of the wires in the harness connecting to it and maybe tapping on the BCM a few times. You might get lucky and find a loose connection.

Fist off thanks for helping me out! I believe you are correct about the problem being in the BCM. At least I sure hope it is. I orderd one last week on Friday. I am letting my mechanic do the install.... I am kinda afraid of screwing that up.
Just wondring that fix your sons problem?

That BCM is a pita. I had a dirty key and it left the car stranded till I used the other set of keys to get the car started.

Actually, I haven't fixed it yet. (on my list of things to do). Right now, we just hit the door lock button a couple of times and it seems to go away. Doesn't happen all that often.

Let me know how it works out for you. By the way, what did you pay for the new BCM? I have seen prices around $160. Need to shop around a little.

Well the BCM seems to have fixed my annoying problem all is well again!!!!:drivin:
Ohh and if you decide to replace the BCM yourself... Make sure you know what you are about to undertake. and undestand what you have to do the recode the BCM with the key resistor for the ingnition.. I don't know what all you have to do but I dont think I would have tried it without complete detailed instructions...
