I am looking to upgrade my cam with the 224/224 XE or Torquer V.2 not sure which one, i would like to know if this a good package to do a cam only swap, and would it last with the cam and just springs and pushrods. Thanks. http://www.texas-speed.com/shop/item.asp?itemid=174&catid=49

when changing to an aftermarket cam, you need to get the whole cam kit.

while doing it all get what ever springs / pushrods / retainers are recommended for how much lift your cam has.
also doesn't hurt to do an ls2 timing chain for another $25. you have an 02, so from what i've heard if you go with a smaller cam like that one, your stock oil pump should be fine.

the 224 cam will take the 918(.600 lift) springs. The TSP Torquer v2 however will need the PRC double spring kit that is good for .650 lift. The comp 921 springs are comparable but way over priced. I know this because I was just looking at the Torquer and 228 cam.

I was wondering about the 918 springs because the torquer is rated at .595/.598 which doesnt exceed the 918s .600 but does seem to be a little too close for comfort, to me anyways. Thanks everybody for all the info.

I bought that cam kit with the torquer 2, push rods and the dual springs. My last cam swap I went with the Patriot dual springs. These look to be the exact same springs??? Same manufacturer?
Anyway, with either cam, get the whole kit and the dual springs, just to be safe.

Ive got the 224XER cam from TSP and i like it but i have also gotten a little used to it now and wished i would have went with a bigger cam such as the V2. It just depends on how you drive your car and what you expect from it

I'm putting it in tomorrow. Don't know how well it will run without a tune. So I'll have to let you know in a week or so after its tuned. :yup:
