Will a Monsoon stereo work in 98 T/A that has the regular stereo?

you'll have some left over slots since the stock radio is 4 speakers and monsoon has 2 more in the rear deck. Not to mention that your amp isn't the monsoon amp so don't expect a big power increase.

what's your goal? big sound or just a better head unit?

Well I have a convertible and I just had 4 new Infinity speakers installed. It seems like I really have to crank it up to hear a good song while going 50 plus MPH down the road. I was hoping for a little more power, to push the new speakers, and still be able to use my controls on the streering wheel. The stock stereo I have looks just like the Monsoon, with the equalizer etc.. just I don't think it has the power.

more power = amp. the stock head unit only belts out abotu 40 watts or less, but the monsoon is a head unit + amp [they say 500, it's more like 200] soooo you need an amp.

Thanks, I thought about adding a amp, but there is a moonsoon on ebay, I was thinking if it in it self had more power I wouldn't have to add an amp, so it would be easier that adding a amp. Looks, like adding a amp is my only choice...

Not replacing the stock headunit with an aftermarket is idiotic... The speakers aren't good enough, the amp's not powerful enough, what makes you think the stock HU is good enough? Just out of curiousity.

At least from what I have found, an after market HU won't allow you to use the controls on the steering wheel.

buy a Alpine, or new model Kenwood like the x790, has steering wheel controls plug in on the back...then get a pac-swi-alp and a couple wires to hook up and program it and your set. I have a kenwood x790(bought off ebay for $206 shipped) and pac steering wheel control interface and works great. Older hu's will work with the pac-swi-x too.. The interface is about $60.

who cares about the steering wheel controls?? I'm converting mine to control my 6spd auto when I finally get my hands on one!!!

I'm gonna make the volume up/down as well as the tune up/down shift the gears... possible make some of the other buttons control the tranny as well... I hear that tranny has several 'programs'... so the steering wheel buttons are going to make use of themselves for once!!!

I don't think the wires are there.

go buy a used 4 channel amp from a pawn shop... you will be happier with that than the over-priced, over-rated monsoon amp...

I don't think the conv cars came with a amp, the only difference between the regular and monsoon hu is the monsoon name on the front. I've always heard the conv cars speakers were powered off the HU only, but I never looked into it much. If that is the case the hookups for a monsoon amp wouldn't be there.

shouldn't be too hard to check in the trunk, or under panels, etc...

if there was no external amp, would that mean that the convertible headunit would have a beastly amp (for a headunit,) built inside?? otherwise you'd have a very limited sound system... you'd think the conv would come with a louder system, seeing how the windnoise would cancel most of your sound anyways.
