well i went to the track last tuesday to run my 2000 camaro a4 only mod slp cai

well my first run was against an 04 vette(probably had the ls2?) well anyway i thought i was going to get my ass handed to me

The light turned green and we launched pretty even through the 1/8 mile but i did pull on him pretty hard through the quarter

the results
my camaro 13.26 @106
2004 corvette 13.56 @104

what is up with this, my $9,000 whipped up on a $45,000 sports car im keeping the camaro,

04 Vette's did not have the LS2 from the factory. Everybody automatically thinks a vette will be fast, some are - some arent. Like most high performance cars, those that buy them dont know how to drive them.

04 C5 should have the ls1... unless it's a zo6

Good run;
From my past experience when I had my C5, the corvette's advantage is in the higher speeds. It does feel nice to beat a more expensive car, but you know most would rather be in the vette if possible.

yeah the 04 corvette has the LS1 ( i think 365hp) unless it was a ZO6 ( 405hp), but like Vette said he probobly could not drive or had TConrol on or something. I remember that there was a dyno test performed on a 99 f-body and a 99 vette and the f-body put out more Hp to the wheels due to drivetrain, but vette weights less.

I think the C5's have 345 like all the ls1 vettes, but anyways, i've seen articles on f body's dynoing higher too....

Those Vette's are sweet, don't know if I would give up my modded Z and another 10 grand for a stock Vette though...:dunno:

I used to think that way too; back in the day when I was terrorizing the streets with my turbo trans am. But several years ago when I bought my first C5, it really opened my eyes. I began to appreciate other aspects of performance cars: handling, breaking, as well as straightline performance. If you have never driven a newer vette, you should, I think you will be pleasantly surprised as I. But I guess it should perform all around better than a car half its price
