Not looking to do headers and such. I just thought
about changing the stock muffler. Which by the way has a nice rumble. Would like to have more though.
What should I do to it? I don't want to spend $$ alot.
Any suggestions? The car is completely stock.
I would suggest a true dual exhaust system using the stock manifolds and with the catalytic convertors left in their original location, with both pipes going down the passangers side, over the axle (with mufflers located one on each side of the rear tub) and the pipes exiting out the rear in the stock location. No, it will not be real cheap but you will get a great sound that is not real loud and if you use straight through, noise cancelling mufflers, you will pick up about 5 percent in horsepower (usually that is about 15 horses). With an exhaust system designed this way the system gives a straight through exhaust flow without the all the noise (stock quiet inside the car). Outside a legal, sweet sound of that LS1 making POWER. (That is if you put your foot down lightly on the gas paddle around town).

Nothing sounds better on an LT1 than the Borla Adjustible. http://www.thunderracing.com/catalog/?action=vshop&vid=4&pcid=53atback.

bassani just came out with a tru dual exhaust for the 95-97 lt1 cars that hook directly to the factory dual cats. even has a x-pipe. here's some pics.

When I 1st bought my car in 01 I bought the Bassani ORY. Did not fit at all! Spent all afternoon under the car for nothing. I'll never buy a pos Bassani product again. :thumbdn:

well, don't know what happened with the y-pipe incident, but both of my cars have the bassani tru-duals without any issues at all. sorry to hear you had a problem with it. did you buy it new or used?

Shortly after I got mine it became widely known back then that they just didn't fit right. Not saying that their newer stuff would be the same way, I just leave it for the Mustangs.

no problem. might want to revisit it again if you don't find what you are looking for. i got their first tru-dual system for the ls1 and did the dyno and track testing for them.

if your not too worried about power increase, but i'm sure you are, go with the 80 series flowmaster. It sounds awsome. It sounds great on a LS1 but i have heard it on a LT1 and it sounds even better for some reason.
