I am thinking about getting an hp tuner becuase i have been told to get the most rwhp from the headers i am getting i need a tune. How difficult is it to tune your car? How will i know what to adjust to get the most power from my mods? Also if i understand hp tuners i can use them on my friends ls1 cars too?

Hypertech Power programmers are real simple, all you have to do is answer the yes or no questions. However, if you have installed aftermarket parts on your car, you will have to figure out a few things, like what your new tire size measures, what new gears you had installed and learn a few things about shift points/RPM's if you have an A4. Otherwise, you can have it done by a DYNO shop with a Predator II, and gain the most RWHP possible with just bolt-ons, but that will cost you.

Only buy HPtuners if you're willing to spend multiple hours reading, for every hour spent actually tuning.
I've spent HUNDREDS of hours tuning my car.
If you don't have the time, but have plenty of $$, get a dyno tune each time you change a mod.
If you don't have time or $$, stick with a mail order tune or a Predator.
