I've always wondered if anyone has ever put an intercooler in the ram air box location... think it would work if there was enough clearance?

Well its not a FMIC but it has dropped my inlet temps way down. Mocked this up and sent it off for fabrication. Person who mad eit dose some nice work. I would post his shop-name but not a sponsor.

This is a good thing. Probaby the worst thing I have seen is folk that have forced their fbody (especially Pontiac-based) to have this big open mouth to make their fbody cool the intercooler. Looks retarded, at best.

This is a very common STS FMIC setup. This one was done by Synergy Motorsports. Lost of guys do similar setups.
The IAT drop is awesome! I went from 230deg IATs at 13-14psi to 110deg IATs in similar 70ish deg ambient temps. This was with the same FMIC setup on my truck.
Expect to spend about $600-$750 in parts if you can do the labor yourself. If you have tio buy a system then they run about $900-$1100 from what i have seen.
*edit* this is rediculous I can post URLs with this new account until I have 5 posts.. Grr I hate losing passwords and chaning emails!
If you want the pics shoot me an email and I'll link ya to em.

I don't have my intercooler kit on my car yet, but here's a picture of everything that came with it. Take a look at the Texas Rear Turbo website. They are the ones who make the intercooler kit for the STS turbos.

Should be the same thing. Only difference between the LS1 and LT1 turbo kits is the piping size.

Here is a nice bumper that I got a few months ago that is designed for holding an intercooler. Go to www.firebirdevolution.net to order yours.

Thanks Packy
It seems to work very well, now with the addition, my inlet temps are about 10-20 deg above ambient. While just cruising around. Once into the boost there is not much more. I have a 2 chnl inlet temp gauge, 1st chnl probe is right at the outlet of the blower. ( you can see the bung on the inlet of the 1st cooler), 2nd probe is in my air box. Which is monitored the most. So between the 3 coolers I am just above ambient. I know the 3 seems to work some what well. The other day just gettig into a bit of boost now and then I would see 200 or so off of the blower and about 110 in the box. Note this was on a 85deg day.
Yes some say it is not a good idea to run coolers this way due to pressure drop. But I am still on the stock block so I am not to worried about pressure loss. As it is I am running a 3.7 pulley so I have plenty to play with.
As for clearance issues yes, I have to be cautious as well. I dont plan on lowering the car so that helps.
Here is a link to the person who made this unit.

I mocked everything up out of sheet steel and sent it off to him and he basicly just converted it to alum. I am very happy with his workmanship. To boot he is a great guy to deal with a great operation.

Do they make that same Front bumper for a Camaro? or somewhat similar?

He still has my mockup, so I dont see why not. I see no reason why it would no work on a Camaro.
