don't be hatin'
Take a look at my time hater. I trapped faster than you with no power adder or slicks. (1/8 mile)
I ran 8.3 @ 97.4 with street tires, without good traction till third gear. You damn 03 boys, I don't know why you guys think you have the end all be all in the pony wars.
Like I said, my Z will handle your 03.
That said, your modded 03 runs quick. (as it should) But my modded LS1 runs quicker. And mine is paid for, and yours isn't.
Now I just got to figure out what to do with that extra 15K I will have laying around after I put your 03 in the rear view.

dude I am not hater. i have never said anything bad to you or your car or any other f-bodies who is running good times.
there are certain things. I ran one of the most respectable time out of a "PULLIED ONLY" cobra. people with the same set ups still running 12s and some in high 11s and i ran low 11s. thats the point. I guess you didn't relaize that part.
I could careless if your LS1 traps or runs faster than me. I only spent 1k in the mods and guess what, i dont have to touch my motor and run 9s.
please don't bring LS1 vs. cobras. totally different 2 animals if you ask me! both have its own goods and bads!
you need to learn to respec. I don't own a rice, I own a cobra.

Not so concerned about the ET as the trap speed.
400RWHP isn't enough to get going 97MPH in the 1/8. Of course...spinning gives you more time to get going faster.
I make roughly 430-440RWHP at altitude and trap 91MPH in the 1/8 mile.

Not that I even care but Im pretty sure youre just throwing numbers around. You are trying to say you ran 97.4 mph with a 2.0+ 60' (no traction) ?? Is that what youre saying? With only 404rwhp? I had 420-430rwhp never dynoed after the last cam TSP 239/600 and I had a 1.77 60' and still only ran 93 mph at the 1/8 and went 11.40 @121. That was a strong run for a DD with only 420rwhp on DR's. :look:
You ran faster than that with LESS POWER and LESS TRACTION......??

Man you need to get some tires on your car and get that 60ft down.. Our 1/8 isn't that far apart I'm JUST 4/10ths faster @ 8.0 @ 86.22 mph with a 1.74 60 ft. If you are running 94 mph in the 1/8 mile and you can get your 60ft down to say 1.6-1.7 then in the 1/4 you would in the low-mid 11's @ some where around 122-123 mph..

I had 420-430rwhp never dynoed after the last cam TSP 239/600 and I had a 1.77 60' and still only ran 93 mph at the 1/8 and went 11.40 @121. HO hum, I have just been BS'd my a couple of cobra drifters. Then the LS1 guys come right behind and second them, that is just depressing. :brick: I don't have the slip, can't post it. But it ran back to back 97.4 traps. The best was the 8.3, the other was a high 8 or low 9 b/c I had to back out of it in second.
I ain't bullshitter boys, that is what the trap speed said. Back to back, EXACT. I was happy, even if you cobra guys aren't. Hell, it trapped 89 with full weight, cam, gears, and full boltons.
But talk is cheap. My clutch has finally started to slip under full power applications. Time to get a new one. But I will tell you 03 turdburglars this, when I get the new clutch in it, I am going to Rockingham dragway to get a time on her in the 1/4, and hopefully the 03 boys will represent. I don't know if I want a piece of a KB cobra without a power adder of some sort on the LS1, but I can handle a Eaton supercharged one without NOS easily.
doodad, respect is earned. You put my car in the rear view with yours, and that is the best way to earn it. That said, this is internet racing, and is thus BS by nature. And no, I don't expect to set up some kind of stupid race where one has to drive 4 hours or some garbage. No thanks, I am sure I can find some 03 competition in the area, already have.
My car barely resembles its factory form, so why throw stock specs at me, run what you brung. A good shadetree mechanic can make anything fast.
doodad, do you remember the first post in this thread? It was mainly about respect for Cobra's and identifying threats. Kind of silly for you to assume I was dissing the 03 dontcha think? :thinkin:

I need slicks. I tried using trackbite, but it only hooked up to the top of first with a granny launch, and shredded 'em through second.
I have a good feeling it will put down a low 7 with drags, and a perfect run. In the 1/4 prolly around low 11's at around the 125 range. Fast enough for a street car IMO.
Sure KB guys can slap 650 to the ground, (and break the bank doing it), and put down a mid 10 at an unreal 134 something mph. They are faster than me, and I am proud to say it! Long live American muscle. I don't really want to run 10's, that sounds like a real dangerous street car. I will be happy with my low 11, 26 mpg, 120+ mph trap, and PAID FOR street rod.

The best thing to do is to meet them at a local dragstrip and show them firsthand.
Anyway, there is a mustang guy here who I am gonna meet at Rockingham sometime for a grudgematch. Mach1Mustang. He has a procharged Mach1. I guess we are gonna touch em up after I get the new clutch installed.

I ran a termy tonight. Red lighted, spun, then he took off (bracket racing) and we ended up starting relatively even. I was off the throttle, but he pulled up right behind me and i floored it again and took off - downshifted into 1st. He pulled about 2 cars on me before I realized it was a lost cause and time to go home... I was unimpressed. He showed me a dyno before the race where he made 480 hp too, on a pulley, intake headers... nothing more than bolt-ons!

OK it didn't run anything. I have never been to a race track ever. I always lie about everything. I don't even own an LS1. That is my grandmothers modded Z28. I wouldn't race a car if I had to. I don't know how to drive a stick.
03 Cobras are gods gift to mankind. Fords are awesome. I wish I could own one. doodad and jayplay are the best guys ever, would only speak the truth. Their cobras are so fast, LS1's could only dream of such power. With minimal mods too. Wow they are great, aren't they?
Why would anyone bother to get an LS1, they are inferior in every aspect to the awe-inspiring TERMINATOR. :notworthy:

I am not on either side. I own an LSx Trans Am.
But nothing wrong with the Cobra. Good power made with little $$.

I put the carpet back in for looks, but without the factory insulation it was real light anyway. I have taken the whole A/C system, and many other things out also. Almost too much to list, but I would say I have dropped about 300 lbs or so if I had to guesstimate.
I also threw the cargo flap back in so you couldn't see pewter from the cabin.
I also pulled all the rubber O seals from underneath the body. (you can see the openings from the first pic) That combined with taking all the sound deadening out =REAL FRICKIN LOUD.

E-gads. Not defending or taking anyone's side....but with traction, 97 mph w/400 RWHP is not at all unheard of. My own car went 94.7 (http://members.cox.net/bobcosby/cobra/images/1143.jpg) in the 1/8th with 355 RWHP @ 3340 lbs. I'm relatively certain I could have gone 97 with another 45-ish rwhp, or if I dropped a couple hundred lbs.
Now....with really poor traction....the car would need to be pretty light to pick that much speed back up, given the same power.

My friend, those are 275/50/15 BFG Drag Radials (the exact same ones that were on the car for the picture that you posted....and even from the same race, Kansas City in June of 2004). They are required for the class I was racing in (cannot use slicks). Yes, I have removed weight from the car - though it was hardly stripped (for example, still had A/C, nice stereo, real seats, carpet, sound deadner, ABS, etc). The class minimum (for a 4V) was 3325 lbs. I weighed 3340 when I crossed the scales.
However, what I have or have not removed from my car is fairly irrelevant to the discussion at hand, as the person above stated that he had "gutted it" when referring to his. Given that I was using my car as an example to show that what he posted is possible (ie....97 mph 1/8th MPH w/400 RWHP), you should be able to make the connection.
As for the video loading slowly....that is well beyond my control, being that it is on www.putfile.com. Perhaps you should upgrade from a dial-up connection?

Nothing special. Here's the dyno graph (http://members.cox.net/bobcosby/cobra/images/fsmotordyno1.jpg). Car was run on 275/50/15 BFG DRs. T5 tranny. Vid (http://media.putfile.com/nmra_race5_fs_final).
Nice drivin' Bob!
117 trap, that Cobra moves. I wish I would have kept my 01. I would have had a supercharger on it by now, and it would have been paid for.

My friend, those are 275/50/15 BFG Drag Radials (the exact same ones that were on the car for the picture that you posted....and even from the same race, Kansas City in June of 2004). They are required for the class I was racing in (cannot use slicks). putfile is slow at times try youtube or other faster sites. I got a good line of DSL. :snowboard: your car is fast for what it dynos but I don't believe the 400rwhp story. no timeslip ;)

I cannot comment one way or the other on the actual story itself, but I can say that it is possible to run 97 mph in the eighth with 400 RWHP (or even less), and that it has been done.
And cable is way better than DSL. :D

yea, bolt on a supercharger to an ls1 and what does it put out? Pretty nasty too!

Pieces of hyperpathetic piston material - much like any other boosted engine with brittle, cast pistons...GM, Ford, or otherwise.
Pretty nasty too!
No doubt about that.
Sorry, couldn't resist.

today i went to track. i was expecting a cool nice air. and actually it was cool in the morning, but i broke 4 studs (yes 4 of them) when i was putting the slicks on and i had to drive on 3 studs each side 60 miles to find autostore to buy some studs and replace them. i went back to track around 2.30pm and it was already hot cuz i was sweating. and got my first run. I knew my clutch was gone but tried it again. as i was saying, i was gonna launch the car hard so i did 4500RPM launch and OMG, clutch slipped some bad, RPM gauge saw 6k RPM when i floored it and the car was barely moving. i only cut 1.75 60' and missed second and and 3rd. stupid clutch wouldn't let me get into gears at all. and I aborted the run. I right away went back to stating line to do a hot lap. the car was heatsoaked, I launched at 5500rpm and the ssame thing, clutch slipped bad and i only cut 1.72 60' and i shifted like i was cruising (your way of saying, granny shifting) and ran 11.6@115 mph. i can' believe I only trapped 115mph. this is the proof, when our cars are heatsoaked, they don't pull at all up top BECAUSE i trapped 98mph (new best 1/8 mile trap). I was so pissed cuz i went to track for new best and sucked with 11.6.
I knew it was gonna happen cuz the day befor ei raced my buddy's vette and missed gear 3 times in a row and i told the vette owner that there is noway i will run any good times tomorrow and it was true, i couldn't (FYI since i added clutch adjuster and quadrant, i never missed gear)
after the new clutch, i can almost guarantee 11.1 or 11.2 out of this pullied only cobra. (on a cool nice air)
just wanted to share.

:( the best car i have ever owned. PERIOD! she is going and i will drive my LT1 from now on and enjoy no monthly payments for a while. I am giving the car away cheap! runs absolutely perfect without a problem. I thought my clutch was going but then we figured out it was my clutch cable which got streched and it is taken care of now. Perfect car for somebody! hell, my car even comes with 5year / 75k miles ford motor co. powertrain warranty!

Someone said they raced an '00 Cobra. There were no '00 Cobra's, except for the '00 Cobra R. I am going to add this breakdown and I would appreciate everyone's opinion. Don't hesitate to disagree, or agree!
93 Cobra, only FOX-body COBRA, (COLLECTOR's ITEM)
93 Cobra R, only like 107 made (ULTRA-SUPER RARE)
94-95 Cobra's, slow pigs
95 Cobra R 5.8L 300 HP/365TQ (only 250 made, ULTRA-RARE, 13.8 1/4 mile)
96-98 Cobra's, 1st year DOHC, need gears and full bolt-ons to be NASTY
99 Cobra kinda NASTY
00 Cobra R, 5.4L DOHC 385HP/385TQ (only 300 made, ULTRA-RARE, REAL FUCK*N NASTY)
01 Cobra pretty NASTY
03-04 Cobra REAL FUCK*N NASTY
07 Shelby GT500 Cobra, promises to be REAL FUCK*N SUPER NASTY

Anyone ever raced a Corvette against the Cobra?
Should be a no brainer right? although i've never driven either of them ;)

I've been wondering this for awhile... why does this post have 500+ replies?
Sounds a little like envy?
So why don't we start a post about the C6 Z06 -- Would we get 500+ replies, I didn't think so.. Stop putting the Cobra on a pedestal.
For the record - I like some model years of the Cobra -- but 500 posts is a bit obnoxious

Somebody, like yourself, brought it back from a 12 month hibernation. An argument ensued.
Now, the topic is being revisited for NO reason.
Won't this thread just die! :nite:
