I have 97 T/A with 72k miles on her. I just went for like 45 min drive. Everyhing was shifting just fine. Then I got back into traffic with stop lights and Wow. Everytime I started from a complete stop the car would shift so hard it made the tires chirp. This is just like shifting in stop and go traffic. Then my SES light came on.Fluid is ok . Any thoughts..

Doesn't sound good - P1870 is Transmission Component Slipping. Maybe something in this link will help: www.ls2.com/boggs/a4/DTC%20P1870%205.8.htm The DTC is maximizing your line pressure.

here is the thing about our trans. They are to smart for there own good. What happens is a gear starts to slip, the computer tries to fix it. Then the problem is one gear is slipping , but the computer has to address it to all the gears. Short answer , if your tranny does anything weird or shifts hard when hot.......TAKE IT IN ASAP...or better yet have it run at a trans shop even if it is acting ok...IMO....

actually mine was far worse than that . someone had been into it and done all sorts of crazy things. I was saying when you trans starts acting up have it looked at , right then...
