I have a 98 z28 convertible.
Lately the lights on the mirror and the 2 lights in the back side pannels come on every time I start the car. Then they stay on about 20 minutes after I turn the car off. The dome light switch is not on and the dimmer has no affect on the problem.
Any ideas?

Sounds like the Retained Accessory Power (RAP) Switch has gone bad or needs adjusting. I had a similar problem on my Formula. I had traded my Firebird in on it, so I knew that when you turned the key off and opened the door, the radio and interior lights should turn off. It seems like the previous owner wanted them to stay on, so he just cut the wire to the switch. (Idiot!) The way I figured out what the problem was is when I had my first passenger and everything shut off when they opened THEIR door. The easiest wat to test this would be to turn off your car and open the PASSENGER side door. If the lights cut off, the driver's side switch is the problem. If not, it's something else. Try this and let us know.
The switch is part of the door latch mechanism and is not available as a separate part. However, the latch alignment is adjustable (slightly) and may not be correctly positioned to trigger the switch. Your 98 should be the same.
