I have a 98 six-speed z-28. I have decided to go with the ceramic Pacesetter long tubes, but I cant decide if I should go with true duals or go with a off-road y-pipe with a cat-back system. I thought maybe I could go with the true-duals and use slp's bullet mufflers and then get a muffler shop to custom bend some pipes after the mufflers to go up and over the rear-end and then get some good looking tips to give it a good apperance. My motor is stock for right now. I have a MTI lid and k/n filter. Bring on all options!

i catback will make about the same peak h.p and cost way less.

Over the axle duals will cost a lot. Dumped duals will be cheaper than a catback. Under the axle "could" be cheaper depending on the y-pipe and CB you get.
Duals have better sound and you will generally see more power under the curve.
What y-pipe and CB do you plan on getting?

I had planned on using the pacesetter y-pipe and a hooker cat back

I run Pacesetter LT's and Hooker CB and it sounds great!

same here
Go with an over the axle true dual exhaust system with straight through, noise cancelling mufflers. You get the performance of the straight through design that lets the exhaust flow freely but without all the noise. The law will not stop you for a noise vilation (unless you romp on it all of the time and at the wrong time and wrong place) and the neighbors will be happy with your quieter exhaust also. Some will tell you that you won't pick up any power with duals but that is not true. You will pick up about a 5 percent HP increase with true duals even when using the stock manifolds and stock catalytic converts, even more with headers compaired with that stupid Y pipe system. Go with a set of over the axle duals. You will be glad that you did.

I been debating what to do with my 98 Z28, either true duals, or the magnaflow catback system. After looking at the different dynos on a stock vehicle with the different systems, i plan to do true dual from the catalytic converters back. For now Im going to leave the stock manifolds, stock cats, but run two pipes, two mufflers, over the axle and out the back. Looks like th HP gain that i been seeing is 30-35 HP.

bassani makes a tru-dual that hooks to factory cats, but only one muffler in stock location. dual in/out. you can see pics of it on my websites. links in sig.

I dont think true duals sound all that great and I've heard several LT/true dual set ups on these cars. I'd go with an ory/ catback set up and put a cut out in the I pipe right before the axel for the track. NOTHING out flows the cut out.

sound is subjective.

Is cost an issue in your question? True duals will cost you much more. Go with the cheaper option and use the savings on other mods.
I run a tru dual set up with the factory cats dump'd b4 the rear axle no mufflers sounds good make sure you get a h pipe though.
