what I was wondering was at what point does the gas mileage drop off dramatically when going with a bigger cam? Does it happen in the 220's, 230's or bigger?

Anything bigger than stock will result in less gas mileage. It is more obvious when at idle, due to the increased overlap. If you spend a lot of time in city traffic, a cam of 220 or more duration will double your fuel consumption at idle and just off-idle.

I do not spend a lot of time at idle.........I was concerned more with cruising speeds.........is a bigger factor the lobe separation or the lift? Probably a bit of both would be my guess........anyone?

my stall converter is worse for mpg than my 224 cam.

226/234 554/575 112 Lunati grind.

I got 27.5 MPG on the highway and 22.5 MPG around town with mostly light driving.
It was on the stock tune.
