question about 12 disc changer

can you hook up a stock head unit up to the 12 disc changer if it didn't come with one? or is that just the monsoon head unit?

i have the stock 12 cd changer and it doesnt have the monsoon head, it just has a regular GM head with no CD player with a AUX button

The only thing that makes the POS Monsoon system a Monsoon system is the POS Monsoon amp that gets added to the POS factory HU. The only problem you might run into is that not all CD HU's have changer controls. Some time during the '99 model year changer controls were added to the factory CD HU. Tape decks came with changer controls in '99 but not all factory CD HU's did.

As I understand it you had to have the tape deck Monsoon from 98-99 to have the changer. 2000 and up doesn't matter which. Heres where i got my info:
