If it's an automatic you can gain a lot of real-world
driving improvement, by getting the car into the
powerband on demand (stock shift profiles just blow).
Some more consistency of performance, probably a
mild improvement in engine output. I found tuning
tools well worth the money and certainly by the time
you are putting a torque converter in, or headers on,
you should be prepared to educate it.

its a 99 camaro z28 stock M6 i was just wondering if i could go get it tuned and gain some extra hp. i saw on hp tuners website that a guy with stock ls1 camaro ran 10.98 in the quarter but he had slicks and probably had a lot of weight reduction done.

even without weight reduction you could probably click off a low 11 with just tuning alone.

Camaro's (excluding Factory Freaks) generally run in the mid 13's... U honestly think a tune will give you that much of a gain? I don't think so man. :nono:

I hope you guys are kidding. :dunno:

No one with a stock LS1 with just tuning is running anywhere NEAR 10 second or even 11 second 1/4 mile times.

Tuning will give you 10-20hp on a stock motor. That's .1 to .3 second reduction in 1/4 mile times.

Weight reduction. Has anyone read that "how to get your econobucket in the 14's" article?

The bar has been raised once again. A new naturally aspirated stock internal LS1 record has been set. Keith is the first to go 10's with a 10.98@119 on a 1.42 60'. The car is a 97 firebird shell with an LS1 transplant and a radical open loop speed density tune using nothing more than an Enhanced IO interface cable and version 1.5 of HP Tuners VCM Suite
