Transmission Performance Switch, HELP

I have a 1995 Trans am with the Transmission Performance switch and curious when do people use this and what's its really for? When activated does it stay on until turned off or car is turned off? Manual don't talk a lot about it and I had my car for about 1.5 years and never used it. Wonder if anyone can give me some input about it?

use it and find out.
all it does is make your car start out in 2nd gear and make your shift points harder.
