View Full Version : jamming gears

I went on a little road trip with a friend of mine this weekend. I was driving my '00 Z-28 M6 with NO mods, he was driving his '01 Mustang GT w/ Vortech supercharger, shorty headers, cat back and I don't know what else. Anyway, we were having a good time screwing around on the road. I was rather surprised to find out that he can't run from me. At 75 we both went down to fourth and stood on it. I thought he'd be pulling from me. Nope. We were door to door and I had two gears left when we approached traffic.

My biggest concern is this, at 120 I can't get the damn thing into 5th. I can go to 6th with no issue. But, I can't get into 5th. I tried everything. I tried jamming it in, easing it in, and double clutching. Hell, I was ready to buy it a drink and bust out the KY. It just wouldn't go. Anyone else had this issue?

tone... someone should chime in shortly with a response.. otherwise.. I'd say post it in one of the other forums LSX or LT1 forum.

this happens to me between 3rd and 4th on aggressive shifting....

also-at 75, feel free to go into 3rd and let him REALLY know what losing is like. ;)

Well, I got another chance to race that Mustang. We jumped from 70 mph. I did what you said, I went to third. My buddy was a little pissed that I walked away from his blown GT with a BONE STOCK Z28.:) :yup:

sucks that no one has an answer to your 5th gear though? it couldn't be the synchro could it? i mean, that is an over-drive gear, the sycnch should mesh like hot knife through butter

It could be a synchro issue I s'pose. The thing that bothers me about it is this, why does it shift fine whenever I'm not in the top of my RPM's in fourth? Whenever I get near redline in fourth and try to go to 5th the problem kicks in. No other time.

It could be a synchro issue, but why wouldn't it be a problem any other time?

do you have the shift skip eliminator? under certin rpms and loads it will make you skip a gear. like if you get on it and wind it out in first it will make you shift to 4th. if you dont try this. http://www.slponline.com/view_product.asp?P=21008
