This is kind of a stupid question. Is there any way to tell if a car is cammed or not? I bought a 98 Camaro Z28 and the guy had no clue what he had. He told me it was factory exhaust and I rolled under it to find a flowmaster muffler with an ORY and intermediate pipe.
The car idled a little rough and i replaced all the plugs, air filter, and checked/ cleaned the fuel injection system (all things i would have done anyways). The car still idles a little rough and bumps just a little bit. I assume I could tell by putting the car on a dyno, but there really isnt one around where i live that's open to the public.
Thanks for any info.

Take it to a track. If you run a 11.XX, then it's probably cammed.
Or, just get out and play with it. See how high it'll tach before the rev limiter cuts in. Stock is 6200, and the stock powerband kinda dies off around that, too. So if you make power up to 7000, then it's probly not stock.

Yeah you should be able to just "hear" it if it's cammed. If you have buddies with a stock cammed F-body, put your cars side by side and listen.

yea i rode with a guy that has the same intake and exhaust as i do, and mine definately runs smoother, so my conclusion is that it probably does have a mild cam. the engine feels stronger than my buddy's and it will rev past 6200, but i've only pushed it to about 6500-6600. Now to take her to the track and see what she'll do.

:usa:Take it to Carolina Auto Masters. It's located in Durham,NC. Not far from where you are. Jeff will be able to hook you up. I just got back from his shop. I love my car again after he got done with it.

I went on to ls1sounds.com, and the best i can figure is it has something relatively mild like a 222/224 with about a 112 lsa. just a guess.
my Z is sitting right at 100000 miles.
