Is it the motor or the switch?

I am having trouble with my window on my 2000 ss Camaro. Sometimes it works....sometimes it doesn't. I don't really want to use the "throw money at it " method. The window will roll down, but when you go to roll it back up, sometimes it won't do anything, sometimes it goes part of the way, sometimes it goes right up. Usually when it won't go up, you wait a minute or two then it might move a little more. As strange as it sounds, it is worse when it is damp out or raining, This makes me wonder if it is the switch. Wouldn't the motor just quit and not do anything? Since the weather is getting nice I really want to fix this, I know it will get stuck down in the middle of a freakin' thunderstorm!::Ohno:

It's a common problem, and it's the motor. You'll need to replace the motor, and go ahead and put a little lithium grease in the joints/slides while you're at it to prolong the life of the new motor.

Have fun changing it. One of the biggest pain in the asses to do. I have changed 2 on my rivers window in a matter of 2 months.

Are there different "brands"? If so, which would you suggest?

Just make sure you get a warranty with it. I don't know what is the best brand cause it is a poor design. Big heavy glass and a little bitty motor.

I don't know if I can tackle that project,it sounds pretty involved from what I read. My Dad didn't raise a "stupid girl", but I don't know if I can handle this one! Guess I'll have to wait for my husband to get around to it. It will be a long wait!!!! LOL

It is a major pain and it can be a little dangerouse cause there is a spring that you have to keep wound tight and you have to be real careful and it is almost a 2 person job. It makes it easier.

what the heck are you talking about D? roll the window up all the way, tear the door panel off, unplug the motor drill out the rivets and bolt in a new motor (most even come with the little bolts), 20 minute job :dunno: You don't even have to prop the window up. Done 4 now, both on my old Z, one on a another guy's and one on my current Z.
