View Full Version : Oil in the throttle body

I'm currently porting out my throttle body, and I noticed there's a bit of old oil surrounding the internals of the TB. Also, fresh oil (just did an oil change) is on the inside of the plate, old oil is surrounding where the TB tunnels outwards to the place, and VERY old dried up oil around the idle air hole. What's this mean? This mean I have a bad or going head gasket?

Oh yea and I also just got a smog test done last week, and my hydrocarbon level was nearly 1/2 that of a normal car. Maybe I'm not eating oil that much :-/

Your motor is sucking oil through the pcv and back into the intake....do the catch can mod and it should stop most if not all of it. You can make your own or buy one....just put the can inline with the pcv. http://www.accmachtech.com/pcvcatchcans.htm

If you can emission wise then i'd remove the egr and mount it to the pass head. I can't remove the egr so I mounted mine next to the radiator on the drivers side....and routed the hoses along the upper radiator hose. I'm looking for a better place to mount it though. It works where it's at but ever since I installed the can when i start the car it isn't as smooth as it is when I bypass the can. But it smooths right out after running for a second....I think it's just building vaccum in the hoses and can. If I find a closer mounting spot i'll let you know.
