dr question

Looking for some dr's for my car, I have the stock wheels on my car (17 x ?). I have had 315/35/17 Nitto 555 dr's and they are ok. What is the best dr that I can get that has good stick, but will last a long time, it will be driven everyday, and at the strip every once in a while.

nitto 315's run small they are only a little bigger then a 285 in a non nitto tire my good year 315's are about a inch wider then the nitto 315 on and off rim

It's just not recommended to run off a 9" wide rim. You'll actually get better performance out of a smaller width tire due to the higher sidewall. But I guess if you want looks over functuality :dunno:

And there is no such thing to have the best of both worlds, such as a very sticky tire and long tread life. Such as Mr. Luos mentioned, use nitto's. On my old car (mustang) I was making about 400 to the tire and the nitto's I had hooked great at any rpm, and got excellent tread life out of them.

Mickey Thompson's are up there as well as far as stickiness...but forget tread life man, I'd get some wheels w/ your radials and have two sets of back tires, one for racing, one for daily driving. Just my opinion man.

I thought if you were to try and mount a tire on a rim that was way too narrow for the tire, it would definately lessen the sidewal of the tire due to how it has to stretch inward? Not trying to be a dick, just trying to find the right answer.

what will happen is the tire sidewalls will 'roll' more. this makes for less cornering ability. better straightline launching. the thing to really look for is the tread width vs rim width. once the tread width exceeds the rim width is when it starts to 'roll'. meaning the tread area gets pulled out of shape. i run the 315 on my 9.5" wheels. it's fine. 9" is pushing it though.
