View Full Version : Front Strut Clearence?

On another GTO web site someone tore the front tire up on the inside because the tire was in contact with the strut.I put my 05 gto on the lift and measured distance from tire to strut i got a quater inch on the left and right side? What is the acceptable clearence ? Iasked same question but no one answered/ I think this is a more technical group, how about it?

I don't know what the "acceptable" clearance is supposed to be, but if the tires aint rubbin', then you should be OK.

Mine rubbed a little bit, not enough to tear up the tire. Easy fix: when you replace tires, go one size narrower in the front. You will have all the room you need.

17,000 on mine and the front tires are bald on the inside edge. Dealer did alignment, and replaced tie rod ends. Working to get 2 tires from them. Details to follow.........

was the tire wear due to rubbing the strut or wheels out of alignment, or both?

Pontiac gave me two brand new 235 size (versus the 245's) Yoko's for the front....they also aligned it with a tad more positive camber....

a friend of mine just bot 06 gto with 18 in. we put it on my lift and he has a lot of clearence about inch and a half but his strut looks smaller i wonder if they changed them? Also i brough my 05 in to dealer for my free oil change and tire rotation i mentioned i had a sligh howl in my rear end at 46 mph they said there is a bullitin on this , so they ordered me a new diff. they are on 3 wk. back order. must be a lot of b. o.

thanks for the info. I'm waiting for their response. It's been over a week now. I need new tires. They rotated the tires last Sept. with my state inspection, and all 4 look the same.................someone owe me some rubber.........:toetap:

OK, guys here's the latest............after a half dozen calls and 2 visits. I just was told "GM WILL REPLACE YOUR TIRES (4) and do another front end alignment, with NEW specs.............................MY CHOICE OF TIRES!!!! :drivin:

I ask him for the specs on the alignment..................when I get I'll post.:yup:

Guys keep bugging them..........MAKE THEM FIX IT!!!!!!!
