hooking up speakers to aftermarket headunit

i got a new head unit and harness, apparently theres an amp somewhere? its monsoon by the way. the 2 front speakers have four wires to each, and the back 2 have 2 to each (i'm pretty sure there was supposed to be four?) where exactly is the amp at and how do i bypass it?, or is there an easier way of changing the ohms? please help

i just put a complete system in mine, didnt run across any amps except for the two i put in back. i ran all new 14 guage wiring to the speakers, that might be the easiest thing for u to do.

The POS Monsoon amp is located above the rear wheel on the passenger side of the car in front of the spare tire. It's mounted to a plastic plate and is on the fender side of the plate. Bypass the amp by running all new speaker wires from your new HU. The factory wires aren't worth using. You'll want to replace the speakers because I don't know of any HU's that can power the factory 2 ohm speakers

The front speakers are passively bi-amped. The HU powers the 4 ohm tweets and the POS Monsoon amp powers the 2 ohm mid-woofers. Firebirds have subwoofers in the B-pillars with dual 4 ohm voice coils ran in parallel. Camaros only have single 2 ohm voice coil subs.

completely off-topic, but do i have to add anything to my paint before i paint the car (cause of plasctic and fiberglass)? i'm using acrylic laquer with pearl in it, thanks again

if your amps not bad, i wouldnt replace it, just intergrate it.

The factory amp isn't worth keeping. It's nothing more than a seriously over-hyped power booster that doesn't put out anywhere near the amount of power that it's advertised as having.

yeah, just like every other factory system and a high percentage of aftermarket. its worth keeping to the extent that its cheaper than replacing everything just to replace the radio.

In the long run a quality after-market system is the better way to go because it isn't self destructing all the time like the crappy factory electronics.
