Laptop for LS1 Edit

do most laptops come with the required RS232 port that is needed for the LS1 Edit program? i have no experience with laptops, only desktops and i am in the market for one, but none of them seem to list that they have the RS232 port on them. just curious if this was a standard port or is it something you have to get extra???

i dont know of any NEW laptops that come with it...most if not all have switched over to usb ports...serial to usb adapters are usually hit or miss which is why many end up buying used laptops that already have the serial port in it. Or just don't buy edit & go with hptuners or efilive since they come with usb ports instead now.

Your best bet is to pick one up off of ebay or something like that.....I found an old one on there for about $150......all I use it for is my car and it works fine....plus...you dont want to have a laptop that you've had hooked to the internet......viruses can make their way onto your ECM also.......that's why its good to just have an old cheap one just for the car........

Check out www.retrobox.com. I bought a laptop from them 2 years ago and haven't had a bit of problems with it. Great tuning laptop and cheap too. I think I paid $200 for mine.
