I didn't want to make a thread on this, but my car is burning small amounts of oil off per oil change. Will using different weight or viscosity of oil's change anything?

How much oil is your engine burning off? I've read that oil from the factory is shipped with some impurities and condensation. Oil level will appear lower come oil change time because this other liquid has been burned off. As far as the truth behind this statement, maybe someone could chime in and explain it more clearly, but it makes sense. As long as your exhaust looks good and it isn't using a large amount, I wouldn't worry.

Dont worry bud its and ls1 thing, i mean if your burning like 2 quarts between changes then somethings wrong but our motors are just built "loose" and they tend to consume a lil oil.
i use about a half of court or so
I also use mobil 1 5w 30 with the over priced mobil one filter

LS1's are also known to suck A LOT of oil through the pcv and back into the intake....you'd be surprised how much. You can make or buy a catch can that traps the oil from going back into the motor. Also ls1's have piston slap(most anyway) so driving hard on a cold motor can also burn some oil. And like sunset said...they're aluminum motors built with tolerances to let the metal expand when hot.

Link to catch can---> http://www.accmachtech.com/pcvcatchcans.htm

EDIT: I have a catch can and get about half the canister of oil every 2000 miles.

I re plumbed the PVC to stand stright up and my oil use has been next to nil.

I use the german castrol synthetic 0-40 I think.

Patman who used to frequent the boards in the past has done alot of research and its real good stuff. I think auto zone carries it.
You have to look for the made in germany on the back of the bottle.

I'm having a bad dream. Somebody wake me up.
Listen kid....there is no " best oil"....depends on your motors condition....your geographic conditions.....your driving habits....many things...so these threads are worthless as hell....OK I'll answer...I use Olive Oil. It's the tits.
