Just a survey of those who have put 17x11's on the rear of a Trans Am. I have an 02 Firehawk and want to upgrade to 17x11's in the rear. I'm looking to go with 315-35-17. For those who have used this combo, have you had clearance or rubbing issues.

Yes I had a good amout of rubbing in the rear at first. I ended up rolling the fender lip, and beat the crap out of the inner wheel well with a sledge hammer to get some extra room. It is definately a tight fit, and will require some modifications to the wheel wells to fit without rub. It looks great when you are done though.

From what I understand...it really depends on the wheels.

I have heard the TT2's tend to fit a little better than other 17x11's.
Not sure if this is true or not....yet.

maybe 305's won't rub??? What method did you use to roll your fender??

Me...I will be taking it to a body shop. If needed anyways.

That is something that I won't risk myself. Probably isn't difficult, but I would rather a pro do it.

You can rent a roller on line. I rented one last summer. I had TT2's and now have Fikse both with 11's and 315's, on a lowered SS. Both combos rubbed. After the BFH and a roller, I have no rubbing. Just make sure you reundercoat after the BFH.

not too sound dumb but:

what does BFH stand for?
What do TT2's look like - photos??
What do Fikse's look like - photos??

Even my 285's on an 11 rub all the time I refuse to beat my car ...

Pictures of Torque thrust II go to American Racing website. For Fikse, do a search.

If your rubbing in your wheel wells it rubs off the undercoating and you'll have rust before you know it. Your better off doing the BFH then reundercoating those areas. Once you apply a couple coatings you can't tell the diff.

the TT2s shouldn't rub.
they'll even fit nicely in the front without any spacers.

My TT2s rubbed in the rear even with an adjustable panhard rod in hard corners. Needed a little BFH.

My 17 x 11 ZR1's bolted right on to my '97 in the rear. I've got Sumitomo HTRZ tires on them.

17x11 TTII's with 315/35 17 GsD3's. My car isn't lowered, din't have any problems with fender clearance but did have to use the BFH mod to the front of the inner fender panel due to rubbing and also ground/trimmed the corners off the bumpstop brackets so the wheels would not hit when the car is up on the rack and the rear is hanging.

Added an adj. panahrd bar once I saw just how out of center the rear really is - with stock tires it's not so noticeable.

Would I have issues with just some 11 inch weld racing wheels and slicks in the back? I have a TA not lowered and wanna just have 15's or 16's just for the strip.. Don't really wanna mod the wheel wells since my everyday rims don't fill it out as well.

It depends on the backspacing...but I think 10.5's are big enough!!

my 17x11 zr1's rub when you hit a big dip or bump in the road. I would be interested if anyone had info on a good fender roller to rent/buy or shop in the wi/il area that they would recommend?

It depends on whick offset and what kind of tire you have mounted.

Nitto 315-35/17 measured 11.25" on the same rim I am running Yoke's in 315-35/17 and they measure 12.75".

After I changed to Yokes I did have to roll the fenders.

315's rubbed my trailing arms and a little on my inner wheel well on my race car TA before I added spacers. I am using CCW's, but will probably still use the spacers w/ other rims.

I have TT2s they rubbed big time. I did the BFH mod, now they still hit but under hard acceleration. Not sure where yet, I havent had the time to research it more. I have Verdestien 315s they are low profile and dont come close to hitting the outside lip. However, I need to lower the car. It looks like a 4X4 now!
I still spin them at 65mph!

I have the 17X11 and after a few minutes with the BFH everything was fine.
