While I love my 1997 Firebird, I dislike the fact that when I turn the headlight switch to "parking lights", the headlight doors go up, even though the headlights are off. I want to be able to drive during dusk with my dash lights, tail lights, and daytime running lights on, but without my headlight doors up. While I could probably figure out how to accomplish this goal by consulting a wiring diagram, I thought I'd ask here first, so as to avoid screwing anything up. Anyone know how to disable my headlight doors with the switch in the "parking lights" position? Thanks in advance for any replies.

I believe you have a bad switch as it shouldn't do that.
That or someone has modified it for some insane reason.

Yeah, the lights shouldn't come up until you turn the switch all the way...

Thanks for the replies. While the concept of potentially having a bad switch or an insane (nice word choice) mod is fine and dandy, what's the best way to check for either? It looks like I'd have to tear apart the whole dash in order to check the switch, though I figure I could check the wires going to said switch if I knew which was which. I guess I should acquire a wiring diagram, right?

Regarding mods, I recently purchased the car, and some work HAD been done to it by the previous owner(s). For one, the 4 spd auto trans currently has a 3 pos shift adjustment switch extending from the base of the console. Also, when my diff's pinion bearing when bad recently, I found out that my stock non-posi 308 had been replaced with a 411 w/ posi (no complaints there *grin*).
