Clutch Installation

Does anyone know if the tranny is dropped out and the clutch is installed from there or is the motor lifted up? Also, anyone who has replaced the clutch in their f body.. approximately how much did it cost?

Drop the transmission.

Should cost around $250.

250$ for labor? That doesn't sound like a bad price at all.

I had to have the master and slave cyluinder both swapped and the clutch done for parts and labor they quoted me at around $2300 no flywheel included in that price. Heh heh found a used 2 post lift rotary for $800 bucks 50 for paint another 50 for concrete anchors and had a hose pop on me 35 bucks and looks works like it is new. probably about 600 for parts machined including new alluminum flywheel. Did it myself plus got a lift out of the deal. It didn't take me too too long since I had to help change diapers in between taking care of this. Only thing I needed help with was trying to get the transmission back in the thing I had to switch to 200lb gorrila mode and really get crazy on it to get it to slide in correctly my dad ended up helping with this... This would have actually cost me more the slave cylinder once I actually got in there had gone bad and squirted fluid all over the transmission - required some seriuos cleaning, the pilot bearing had disentigrated the only thing left was the outer shell of the bearing in the motor which I carefully dremmeled / chissiled out. Plus I fixed the leaking rear seal while the driveshaft was out cost me a new crush sleeve and new seal. Since then I can change oil quicker and easily diagnosed a leaking water pump withought jacking the car up. I have a regular garage with a 10 foot ceiling hydraulic post go up into attic sotrage area I bought and 89 cent black floor mat from wal mart and stapled it over the hole so you cant see into the attic when lift isnt in use, and it gets the car up around 5' 7". I was lucky got a neighbor into construction who let me borrow his heavy duty hammer drill to install the lift. It's an old 7K lb lift from the early 80's but works like a champ. Best 800 I've invested in the car / cars work on the wifes honda with no issues as well.
