? heat issues with new headers

New kooks stainless headers on the way. A friend told me to watch for heat issues with headers. And gave me some cool tape (heat reflective tape) to put on some black box by fire wall next to header on passenger side.
Should I have gotten coated headers. I was told Kooks are real nice headers.

I'm pretty sure Kooks are stainless steel and yes they are very nice, better than coated headers. You should be fine but there might be some precautions i dont know about...

I've been raping my headers for about 7 years now, it works great for me.

ehh.. I dont think youll have much of a problem with the firewall. The biggest concern is your plug wires.

I don't think you'll have any problems. I actually did a 'before' and 'after' IR camera session with my T/A. Took pics of the engine bay heat at operating temp. with the stock manifolds - and then again after the install of my JetHot coated Hooker LT's. Not a comparison that is really germane to your swap - but at any rate the IR mapping showed considerably less underhood heat with the coated headers.

I would just make sure to protect the plug wires from any contact as stated above. Even though I have coated headers I actually re-used the factory metal plug end shields over my MSD wires - just to make sure...

I, too, recently ordered some Kooks headers. George at Kooks told me not to bother getting them coated, in fact, he said they don't even guarantee them that way. He says the coating has a different coefficient of expansion and will sooner or later peel off. :help:

I bought the Supermaxx SS LT's and didn't coat them. I did think seriously about having them coated but decided not to. My brother who has a new charger R/T bought supermaxx SS LT's, paid extra and waited the two weeks to have them coated. I plan to check the header temp and compare the two just for shits and grins. One note: My brother is still .9 seconds and about 8 MPH slower than me in the 1/4 even with his 1.9 60' time.:drivin:
