I am looking at putting a Stealth 2800 converter in my daily driver 04 GTO. What can I expect to drop off my 1/4 times? Getting a great deal on the converter, so a larger stall is not an option.

A larger stall would be better. My guess with traction is .2-.3

I am thinking about going with one of the Yank/SLP 2600.
It is a 2000 A4 with aluminum driveshaft and 3.23s
It is my daily driver.

you will be pissed with the performance.
stock stall is 1800 rpm. youre not going to get much out of it.
my 3000 drives almost like a stocker.
i highly recommend a tci 3000 stall.
even if you dont want a tci stall, dont get anything smaller than a 3000 rpm t/c

i mean im happy with my stall, but alittle bigger would be better for my current cam.
i also could of went bigger cam wise if i had a bigger stall.

I have a friend that went with one of these, and said it was just like stock, he drove my 01 Z28 with a Y3000 2.0 STR, and said it was a big difference.
I too wish I went bigger with a 3200 or 3500 stall.
Do not waste your money on that particular converter, it is really a redone truck converter.

I'll be happy with .3 off the quater for the $90 purchase price of my 5000mi. Yank converter. It will be a great bang for the buck for me.

I started with a 3200 and now I am on a 3600. And I still want more.

It sounds to me that you are making your choice "price based" rather than "performance based".
$90 is alot to spend on a doorstop.
Save your money and do it right the first time, go with a 3200 or 3500 stall.

I don't have much experience with converters, but if stock stall is about 1500 rpm, wouldn't a 3200 stall converter really be a little much for a nearly stock daily driver?

I thought the same thing. But 3200 is the lowest you should go. After a few days of driving. You won't even know its there.

Well, I hope I WILL know, ;) right? It's this or LT headers, and it's starting to sound like a converter might be a more noticeable improvement.

You will know when you get on it ;) :zoom:
Converter should be your first mod.

I'm pretty sure it won't be a doorstop. If I get .3 off my 1/4, then I will have made the right decision. Pretty cheap gains. I have had big converters in the past, not my cup of tea on a daily driver in Chicago.

I would go Yank or Vigilante, they both manufacture a quality product, pricey though.

I was looking at getting a 3000 stall 2.0 str for my daily driver, does this mean I'll lose .5 in the quarter mile with that set up??? I guess I'm kinda confused :dunno:

Why are you getting such a good deal on the converter? Is a friend selling it? Has he realized like so many others that it is not enough and is going to a bigger stall?
Pulling the tranny to swap converters isn't all that hard, but it's no picnic either. I think everyone is trying to tell you:
you won't notice the stall much in a daily driver
you won't get the benefits that a 3200+ stall will give you (with traction)
you will find that the gains are enough to make you realize more is better
to get a better stall later, you'll either have to: a) do the R&R again or b) pay for the labor again
Lastly, $90 is a good deal for a 5000 mile coverter that cost $600 new. Are you sure it's in good condition? See the last list item.
This forum is a great way to share information, some of which can save you time and money on parts that won't quite get you where you want to go. Of all the previous posts, I've not seen anyone who has already installed a converter comment that you'll be ok/happy with only 2800.
Whichever you decide - good luck!
