View Full Version : ? will my 10 bolt hold.
New kooks headers ordered with catless y-pipe and a ls6 intake.
Also getting sub frame connectors wires plugs and a TUNE.
On my 99SS M6 34k on the car. This is my weekend cruiser.
? will the rear end hold up. Told that GM 10 bolts suck.
I do have stock tires on car and do not plan on going to the strip.
thanks

It will hold, just dont take your car to hell and back and you should be fine. The LS6 manifold, you wont be able to tell the difference. On a dyno it will show better numbers.

yah you will be fine, like he said dont take it to hell and back...maybe get some nice sticky tires too, helps with the traction

it'll hold fine. even at the track. slicks will cause major problems though. but stock tires break loose and dispel some of that TQ. besids, i don't see you making more than about a 50-75hp/tq improvement with all that. it's not like a cam or anything.

NOOOOO! too much traction is what kills these things...if you have street tires it'll break loose, but if you have stickies all your tq hooks up and that's where you start to destroy stock parts

Will this help T/A performance rear end cover (girdles)
I dont mind the money if it helps. I will keep stock tires.

? Wasting money on a ported t/b also then. My dyno guy told me not to bother with a ported t/b with stock heads and cam.

youll be fine.. I have seen stock cars blow the rear up before but generally your okay till you hit that low 12 sec 1/4 mark on DR's.

No, traction won't kill a rear end, but wheel hop will. With a 10 bolt you need to keep a few things in mind...first of all get rid of any wheel hop. It is the shock to the rear end that breaks things. Need to keep it full of fluid at all times and never run it low...and if you put an aftermarket gearset in, make sure they are set up correctly.

If you get it to hook up you are going to have problems, if not now it won't be long. Been There! Done That!
? do vettes (c5) have the same rear end.

You can break a 10 bolt on street tires with stock gears. I've seen it done. On the street. That being said, there are also people running them in M6 cars into the 11s. It may just be luck of the draw. If I where you I'd start saving for a new rear if you want to beat on it all that much. Also the LS6 intake will continue to make power after 5500 rpm. The LS1 starts to drop off at that point. That a pretty good mod to do to the 98-00 cars.IMHO

 ive taken mine to hell and back a few times... the STOCK 10 bolts are shit my car dynoed 360rwhp 374 rwtq and ran a best of 12.59 on bfg drags and the next day i had to replace bearings and the gears. i have the spohn heavy duty torque arm with d/s loop- i didnt know how to set pinion angle at the time and had it at like -3 so thats probably what blew that bearing. but my buddy has a blown 02' ws6 that runs mid 11's. he still has a 10 bolt and it is pretty stout. he welded the axle tubes, threw in moser bearings, moser 33 spline axles, aluminum cover w/ rear end girdle, and topped it all off with gm 3:73's and an aubrun posi unit. i think thats a pretty stout combo and will hold up to what a daily driven/modded car will throw at it.
