After changing my oil, I noticed a lot more valvetrain noise. Is this normal with synthetic oil or do I have a problem.:Ohno:

Did you have the old oil in for an extended amount of time?

I don't think so, maybe 3200 or 3300 miles at most

Synthetics tend to actually clean the old slug out of the motor...so you might get a little more noise

Thanks, it runs perfect. It just ticks when I set a red light or just let it set at idle for like 3 or 4 minutes.

are you sure you put new oil in, cuz that would prolly cause some noice. j/k prolly nothing it less its really loud

i've noticed the same thing.seems regular oils are better at hiding noise than synthetic's are.if i run reg pennzoil i hear nothing,if i run pennzoil platinum(the best oil ever made that turns you into an instant chick magnet)i hear the valve train constantly if i listen closely.i mix half regular half synthetic when i change oil, this seems to be a happy medium.a little noisy but sounds normal.its nothing worry about.

really?you mean the blend thats twice the price it should be?thats 15% synthetic at best?that i can make for alot less?that i can control and know how much synthetic is mixed with the regular oil?you mean that one?

Man you are hard to convince, I bet you don't buy 50/50 premixed antifreeze either :Ohno:

the mixed antifreeze i buy.the blend oils i don't because its more of a sales gimmick than a real product.most blends they do not list the % of each oil.plus like i said if you price it and do the math you make your own blend alot cheaper, plus control the % of each.I usually mix 25% synthetic to 75% regular.plus if you use pennzoil platinum(the best oil ever made that turns you into a instant chick magnet)you can save some gas money.i get really good mileage in all my cars + all the hot chicks dig me and give me gas money.

So instead of $9 a gallon antifreeze, you buy a $7 half gallon and half a gallon of water? OR is there some magic at work in premix that I don't know about, I was making a joke about the premix, lol

well till you buy 1 gal then go buy 1 gal steam distilled water, mix it up and fart around.its easier to buy the premixed.

distilled walmart water is good enough for me at .75 a gallon, at the end of the day it's still just a machine, a big hunk of metal :dunno:

unless you don't care what you put into your car and use plain tap water mixed with antifreeze<not wise

I don't use tap water, but I don't go overkill either, but I understand that overkill is in the eye of the beholder

This isn't the first time this ticking noise has happened. It slowly gets quieter ever couple of weeks. This is my second oil change with Royal Purple and it seemed to get louder with it. I have run synthetic oil for abot 15,000 miles. The tick has been there about since then, just this last time it got a little louder. It was not making any noise at all before the oil change.

If I had a valvetrain problem, would it get louder with more rpms:confused: It only does it if it idles or if I just barely move the throttle to maybe 1200 or 1300 rpm.

if you had a significant valve train issue-yes, it would get louder/more noticable as the RPM's go up. I had a popped lifter  and it was the loudest cracking noise and would increase/decrease intensity proportionally to the RPMs....so. I think you don't have a big problem. Prolly just piston slap, man. it's an LS1 thing.

i got the same kind of noise it almost sounds like the injectors idk though,

his might be piston slap but i dont think mine is because they say that the older modles dont get it nearly as much as the 00's up

did you change weights of oil at all? Did you check and make sure your oil level is right after its been heated up to operating temp? Changing from a 10W to a 5W will increase valvetrain noise

Actually I run 10-40.
