Settle this argument between me and a co-worker:

Regarding my 85 Chevy Impala, I say that an open Air Cleaner allows more air into the carb. HE says that the air going into the carb with an open Air Cleaner installed is going to be hot air, since the open air cleaner basically takes in the air from the engine compartment and can't be routed there from anywhere else, by design. The stock Air cleaner works better in his opinion.
What do YOU say?

OK....the old CAI argument...I'll play....ambient temp/engine bay temp...now lets all take big brain pills and figure this out....if I am sitting still ...say at a stop light or at your friends girlfriends house getting a quick BJ...whatever...the engine bay temp will "creep" and influence my IAT...no doubt.....stock airbox or CAI (KN whatever)...why? Cuz we aint moving thats why.....now when we are moving...the CAI will kick the living shit out of a stock airbox anyday....why...easy....(you did say thank you as you drove away from your friends girlfriends house didnt you? We do not want to be rude)....cuz we are moving air through and the "cone" or CAI is much more efficient than a stock airbox...period....end of stroy....the end....
