hey folks, i recently got my z back from the shop after having quite a few mods installed, pacesetter lt's, 3.73's, cold air intake, comp cam, ported and descreened maf, tb spacer, new plugs/wires and a few others. but the mechanic told me that the ignition box i had for it was not for my car. i thought these things were universal and would work on pretty much anything, guess i was mistaken. maybe he was lazy and didn't want to look up the wiring diagram. could anyone help or give any suggestions? if i can get this installed, will i have to get the car retuned all over again?:drivin:

He's right..the box isn't for a ls1. MSD has made the coils for the ls1/ls6 though....and they are making a box for a ls1 with a carb swap.

There's been some discussion about the MSD coils for LS1/LS6 engines on the Corvette Forum. One member claimed that throttle response was improved. However,I agree with Bombguy99Z28 that the stock LS1 coils are fine. You have 8 coils, and in my opinion, replacing them all with MSD coils would be expensive for little, if any, horsepower gains.

No one said the stockers weren't fine....he asked about the ignition box by msd and I told him the only thing msd makes right now for a LS motor are coils and a box for a ls1 with a carb. The cost to power gain isn't worth the coils IMO...but i've heard from other people that there are other benifits to them besides a gain, like smoother pull and idle...better gas milage from the multi-spark effect. And in Sarge's case the stockers aren't good enough...but that's on a heavily modded 408...I think that's what he's got in there now:dunno:

My opinion is that thread starter would benefit from direct, succint information and that his car will probably never be in a situation where it would benefit from upgraded coils. ;)
