I have wanted to install a shift kit in my transmission but I was told that it would be a bad move unless I have the car tuned for it.Is this true or not? And what is the best one for my 99 Ta? also what is the best stall for a near stock car? I was told that a 3200 would be best.also what brand? keep in mind that this is not a race car just a fast toy.

You do not need to have your car tuned for a shift kit, as far as performance goes it won't help your e.t. but it will make your car a lot more fun to drive. As far as a stall converter goes, ask around, a stall converter is only necessary for a car with an after market cam, but for a stock car 3000-3200 stall will really wake up your ride, Yank is a good one, check our some our sponsors and they can get you what you need. :drivin:
Dont forget a new transmission cooler !!

im a big fan of my tci streetfighter 3000 stall.
if you do get a stall, get a shift kit, tranny cooler and a basic converter tune.

I would recommend the TransGo HD2 shift kit. It does a fine job and does not make the shifts too harsh under "normal" driving conditions. You can find them on eBay for around $90, shipping included.
I agree with the other posts, a trans cooler is a must.
3200 seems to be the favorite stall for a DD, although I do not have one myself. Yet. :)

I read on another thread that if you go with an after market cam that the stock stall converter would not flow enough and you would need a higher stall converter
