I recently got these DR's for the track but haven't had a chance to run them yet. My question is, do these tires need just a quick spin the clean them off like regular street tires, or is it better to go ahead and roast them a little bit to heat them up?
EDIT: I've heard both ways, I just wanted yous guyses input.

Just put my nittos on yesterday!!!! I have the street drag radials 315/35/17VR and WITHOUT a heat up and 411RWHP and 403RWTQ i grabbed like a SOB dumping the clutch at 3K....... I do have all supporting suspension mods but before the tires i broke loose of my street tires like they were bald... Now i cant even break loose of these!!! I love em!!!!
Hope it helps!!!

I use the 16 inch Nitto 555R's and have to heat them up pretty good. When smoke is rolling off them I wait about 3 seconds and pull up to the light. If I don't make sure they are hot, I get crap traction and catches and lets go...horrible on rear end.. I run them at 18psi at the track and 31 psi on the street. The only suspension things I have changed is boxed lca's, boxed sfc's and Bilstien shocks.

One more question, should I use the waterbox or no? I've heard no on plain street tires, and I've never used it. :dunno:
Another thing (this is going to sound like a stupid question) but when you use the waterbox, you're just supposed to give them a quick spin in the water to coat the whole tire, then pull out of the box for the full burnout, right?

i always back the rears into it, and the pull just in front and start spinning

yea i use the 16 inch nittos, run them at 12PSI, burn out in waterbox, hold on for 5 seconds or so... thought i was getting wheel spin but turns out i have 2.73s and its just slow... cant wait for 3.73s and ill see how good these nittos really are

I use the 555rIIs, they're for auto cross/drag, but help me stick real good on the track or in the corners with a little warm up time to make them stick. Once I see smoke they're ready.

I thought it was against NHRA regulations to run through the waterbox with anything other then full race slicks??? If it's not then i KNOW the officals will hate you for dragging water down the track because of the treads in the tires... Just from what i've heard...

They let the people with drag radials line up in the slicks only lanes too, I pull up to the edge of the water and get them hot, then pull forward. Without the hot burnout traction is terrible. I like the nitto's, just have to make sure they are hot and they hook good. I only have right around 350 rwhp, but I also have the 3400 stall and it breaks tires loose easy. I am going to put some LCA relocation brackets on and it should launch great. I am just at the point now, that I need some little things to hook good. My 16 inch tires are only 245, so may be since they are not as wide traction suffers a little. On hot days when track is 100+ they stick like glue, cooler days is when I have the problems.
