How much is it?

currently hptuners starting price is $499
free updates
2 year/model not vin locked meaning you can purchase for an 00 ls1 fbody & 01 ls1 fbody & tune as many as you'd like of those two years. Each additional year is $199 up to 4 on your unit then $399 after.
Powerful scanner
Editor looks to be better then ls1edits
2 min read times compared to 15 mins for edit
30 second write times compared to 5-10 mins for edit
pcm crash protection
hptuners.com forum whereas edit only has email help
help file which will be integrated further with v2.0

So I fould get one a 00 and a 98 for $499? What does it owrk off of a laptop? And how easy is it to use or would I have to get someone to do it for me. I can handle this stuff, but when it comes to programs I'm not sure. :thinkin:

yes, yes, it depends on the user...I personally think its very easy to use, but then again I've spent hundreds of hours behind my laptop working with it as well as talking to people more knowledgable than I figuring some things out..in the end if you think you can handle it go for it...if not find a good tuner close to you to get it done.

Works for me I know a few people that I know can do it here at Year One where I work so that wouldn't be to hard. Thanks for the info.

as of now HPtuners is the way to go. EFI is also coming up. They have integrated alot of things into their software that eliminates the need for spreadsheets. Either way you can go wrong. They cost about the same. Both have free updates for life (thanks Bill and foff) ;) they're both better than edit because they have their own scanners built into the software, where as with edit you needed efi anyways. It will take some time to learn. Once you get the hang of it things will begin to click....so Ive heard. :rotfl:

Actually EDIT now has a scanner built in. But their licensing sucks.

I run HPTuners for tuning and EFI Live for my Scanner.

Edits got alot more problems other then their licensing but thats besides the point...maybe 2.0 will help you change your mind

I dont understand why people say hp is anywhere close to what efilive is. Efilive is Alot farther in depth than hp is. Anything that hp does Efilive does better. Hp2 isnt even released to the public yet so compairing it to anything is not even a valid fight. Even though, there isnt much in hp2 that isnt Already in efilive.

If you look at editable tables, Efilive has over 700 now where as hp is less than 500.
Efilive has updates about once every month where as hp has one maybe a year?

I didnt say 2.0 doesnt...I said 1.7...2.0 will be out shortly from what I understand from what I can see its pretty much done...anything they are touching up now is icing on the cake.

Ahh, you meant using EFI as my tuner instead of HPTuners.

Well since I already have HPTuners for all years for F-Bodies. No reason to change. And when do tuners use every single table??

huh ya lost me...my point was 2.0 has alot of advances...it might be time to sell your efi live cable & have some cash in pocket...efi lives main advantages over hpt were free updates & the scanner...hptuners has made alot of strides with the scanner & made updates free for new users as well as a lot of old users dating back to people who made their purchase in oct of last year. This is a quick screenshot with a hpl file i found on the net...the new scanner allows 48+ bytes of data to be taken, they've enhanced how many pids & sensors you can check...they have calcs in there for many things pre configured as well as a bunch you can configure for your own specific needs...Personally I dont think ive used the gauges in about a year but you can take a look at a quickie i put together ;)

I havent edited more then maybe 20 or 30 tables tops for most people...so 700 vs 500 doesnt matter to me...i've gotten updates about once every month to two months with hptuners  as far as the difference between 2.0 vs. the latest efi live is I can say they are now very comparible making it a user decision now. And even black02ss's pdf comparison shows that hptuners offers more for less and he owns efi live :)

:) Nah, i pretty much gave up on tuning the v6 stuff over the internet from that site. I only Do them locally and in person. LOL,, Those dhp supporters where making me mad and annoyed.. Too many brainwashed people over there.

Only dhp can make custom tunes according to them and the 3 years that they have been around makes the 1.0 tunes Superior to anything else " ALL the Testing they did and research. lol " and if you use another persons tunes the vehicle other than dhps, you will blow up.. LOL,, I tune 30 peoples computers a day, i dont need all the bull crap from those guys over on that other forum.. :) You know what i mean? :) ive tuned over 6000 cars and trucks now, And well, no failures yet. and 5 years later... :(

I have figured out how to use ida pro and find all the tables needed and to set up checksums ect, so when i do have something that needs done, i just do it all with a hex editor and a spreadsheet i have set up so i have all my tables figured out that I needed, and i can tune them much faster this way, I think it is how dhp did it when they started, and i am finding a bunch more tables than what hp had at the time of me selling my stuff, 1.7 i think was the version...

I sold all my hp stuff a long time ago. Im very happy with efilive, and have never needed to go back to any other tuning software. The new operating systems and extras that they give are more than worth the extra money. :)

Thanks Foff667, I do appriciate all the help you give me on the forums. If you ever need anything, just ask, Jes

I've always respected what you do for the tuning community & your prices really cant be beat. I know efilive offers some very good stuff but the guys at hp have treated me pretty fair thus far and with all the improvements ive seen in 2.0 theres really no need to switch...having the custom OS's are great though...thats one thing id really like to see but they seems stuck in there way at this point...at $300 a pop or whatever it is for the 2 bar theres really no one that would want to pay that on top of what I already charge for tuning...at that point theyd rather go to a cartek or what have you.

What did that local speed shop charge you for tuning? Just wondering, as I've never had anyone but me tune my engines. Too bad you're not computer literate, you could do some nice experimenting and really tweek that baby.
