Is there any old school tricks of the trade to get the old pilot bearing out. Hung up on it now, trying to get the motor back in the car by tomorrow night. Please, Please, Please chime in if you have ideas on how to pull this off. :true:

Come on guys/gals. Just rented a puller from Advanced Auto Parts and the damn thing still isn't coming out. Don't want to break the crank seal like I have heard horror stories. Need help.

How about a sharp chisel and a big hammer? or an air hammer w/ a sharp chisel bit? Chisel that thing into pieces and take it out.

Thought about it but its so close in on the crank, I don't want to knick it at all. And Cutlass, thanks for the help, can you PM me your number again. My old phone took a dive in the sugar river when my drunk friend decided to tip the canoe.

I thought the old school trick was to pump grease into the hole to force it out -- do not know the particulars of how this was accomplished, but that is what I recall.

From what my search has come up with is to NOT PUMP GREASE for some reason. I believe its so you don't fuck up the crank seal or some thing similar. We got it out by grinding the fuck outta it with a dremel.

Not sure about LS1, but on old school stuff isn't it a blind hole? :think:

There is a pressed in plug (like a freeze plug) in the back of the LS1 crank. The grease method could unseat that plug and cause an oil leak.

yep found this out from some of the guys here a good while back. Maybe try a dremel to cut it up into peices. Cause if ya push that plug deeper or it gets turned and jammed:suicide:, oh boy mad news..:hide:

Got it, engine is in the car :happy: :happy: But much more work to do.
