View Full Version : had an interesting experience with a 2010 shelby

so i was on my way to a youth group meeting (with the tops off, windows down) and was stopped at a red. coming up behind me i see the scarylooking front end of a brand new red and black shelby,
we were both first at the light, and i figured i had to look over because i didnt want to look like a pus, this guy is staring straight ahead, both hands on the wheel, fists clenched tight.
i waved, no response, i pulled up more, no response, i revved, guess what? yeah, nothing.
i saw his eyes shift over at my hood once or twice but he was trying hard not to twist his neck and make eye contact with me, the light changed and i left him at the intersection, he wasnt racing because if he was i would've been crushed, i'm just amazed at how our cars retain their look if they are taken care of and are mistaken by common folk for new 'vettes/challengers/camaros/etc.

Not so sure you would've crushed him, I just read an article about those cars and they run mid 12s @ 113 or so. And they also cost about 50K. I'd like to put about $15,000 in our engines and see how they respond...alright, only $12,000 in the motor and $3,000 for a new differential.
Weird how he never looked at you.

OP said that he would have been crushed not the shelby.

You still might have crushed him..
What Shelby was it exactly? If it was just a Shelby GT, you'd have taken him out no problem.
The Shelby GT is basically just a GT with stripes and a CAI. My boss had an '08, I wanted to race him so bad but he wouldn't take it to the track.

:yup:Obviously I stand corrected!
The article I read was with the supercharged ~510 HP 5.4 32v engine. The Ford engineers were upset that at the track the car would only run a 12.9 @ 113 MPH, even the Ford driver couldn't get the car faster. They were saying it should've been .5 faster.:bomb:

If the driver sucks a little that car is slow I have an A4 and I beat one by a bit. If he drove better and not spin at launch he would get me.

Ive seen em run in the low 12's with just DRs. I have also seen them run low 13s lol

they come with crap tires that can't hook, one magazine managed to get mid 12's @ 118-119. motortrend put it on the dyno and got 511 to the wheels...that would suggest much more than the claimed 550 on the motor. I have seen the new zr1's dyno from 525-560

Or maybe the dude in the shelby could care care less about a 11 yr old car or the driver in it.Just as another perspective.

Damn. That would be a harsh response, eh?
I guess you have a point, but myself, and sounds like you too maybe, would not have an attitude like that. I like most all muscle/pony cars. As long as it's a V8 and RWD, it's golden.

Your right I like all pony/muscle cars.I just hate posts like these. No one knows what the dude was thinking.Usually I dont respond to these types of post, but for some reason this one struck me wrong.

this was an upper model shelby, it actually had the slanted aggressive front and rear fascia, not the stock gt one with a snake in the grill,
idk you can talk smack, i'm just saying what happened(or didn't happen), a typical ford driver was either too scared to look over, too proud of his grossly over priced 12 second car to look over, or was blind and deaf. he was an older guy so maybe all three. just saying.

I hear you on that.. I have owned a few F-bodies.. ALTHO, back in the early 90's when I had my IROC... I did have a mullet (hangs head in shame)
But when I had my 01 SS and now with my GT/CS.. I am clean shaven bald, I see more and more guys going shaven.. wonder if that is gonna be the "mullet" of the 21st century

Pretty much true. The 2010 had it's hp bumped up and makes like 540bhp if i remember right now. Still runs shitty times, but a good MPH in the 1/4. Tires are shit and they handle better than the new camaros apparently. They did a comparison with the hennessey camaro. Of course the camaro was faster but they liked the gt500 better for some reason.
IMO it's overpriced, but i think the powerplant is great. I think it looks horrible as well. Looks like a v6 with stripes...nothing special imo. Yes i can tell the difference, but it's nothing special and overpriced

It's pretty ironic to have a F-Body owner dissing the looks of a Shelby.

Where do the 4th gen Firebirds have excess cladding? We could get into a big debate about functional/non functioning scoops, rear fender fake vents, etc. I usually think of cladding like what is on the Grand Ams of various years, or the side cladding they used to put on Cherokees.

At least the cop had good taste. I agree that looks are subjective. The bottom line is American V8s are great.

I have to agree. I have seen five different shelby's in my area and none of them ever want to mess around. They are older men, usually accompnaied by a friend and i always see the passenger point and jump up and down to take me on, i just look and give that look, like you want to? But NOPE. The owners of those cars are much mature when they drive those things.
