I have a 2002 Z-28, maroon, black leather, T-tops, auto, monsoon, etc. 24,000 miles, factory warranty until 11-05. The dealer has offered me $16,000 on trade for a 2005 Impala SS, 2500 miles, gm exec. car, black, leather, chrome wheels, no sunroof, warranty until 3-08, 39,000 miles, window sticker is $30,500, price is $21,995, so I have to pay $6,000 difference. I have been driving this Impala all week, supposed to sign the papers tomorrow. Should I ??? I have a herniated disc, which is why I started looking at cars, the 05's seemed like such a good deal now, just wondering if I'll regret it. Is this a decent deal ??

Anyone have an opinion ?? This Impala is smooth, rides nice, quiet, I just have this feeling that I'll regret getting rid of the Camaro. Or is this a pretty good deal they're giving me ?

That's a good deal they are giving you, but you need to check out problems those cars have. They use to a problem with the intake gaskets I believe. But if they are willing to give you $16,000 then you have wonder. Because if they can give that then you could get more if you sold it.

Every dealer I went to, except this one, would only go $12,500-$13,000 on trade. They said that's what they were going for at the auctions this time of year, and my car wasn't an SS and was a bad color. So when I was able to get $16k from this dealer as well as $8500 off the sticker on this Impala, it seemed like a no-brainer. I'm not that impressed with the Supercharged V6, it's no ls1 !!

Trade it in for a GTO, if ya have to trade it at all, ...
At least then you'll be able to keep up with all yer old friends, ...

I agree. Go to Pontiac and see what they will do on a GTO. Hmmm.... 400HP, is that what they have? It will be worth more in a few years and you won't miss the performance.

Well, the GTO is only discounted to $31,653, so $16,000 plus my car, plus tax and license. I have another day to decide.....

I would go with the GTO. But the Impala's are nice.I had a 94 SS Impala that I sold in 98. I would like to have it back.

I heard that the Monte Carlos may be going to a rear wheel V8 in 07 . That maybe something to look at

I wouldnt. I would get a GTO or an audi s4. They have great seats and are fast/ cool. If its too much money than get some Recaros or Sparco seats for the Maro.

I have both cars. An '01 Z28 and an '04 Impala SS. You can't compare apples to oranges. The Impala is a different car. I do have pretty much the full list of bolt ons on my Impala. I've taken down SRT-4s, a couple AWD turbo cars from a roll, a couple Mustang GTs...With what I've done if I were to bolt on a set of DRs or slicks I would be deeeep 13s, maybe a high 12 if I put an even smaller pulley on. If you want more info PM me.

I can guarantee you this, if you're having back problems the Impala would be a good choice. I've taken many road trips with mine. It's comfy as can be, especially when it's cold out and you crank up the heated seats. As big as I am on V8/RWD, the Impala has one thing the GTO doesn't. If you need it, it's got a trunk. The stock stereo is pretty damn good compared to other stock stereos I've heard. Another fun thing about the Impala I don't get with the Z28 is the stealthiness. Alot of people don't even know there is an SS model. The subdued SS badge on the doors is hard to see, especially at night.

The Impala might seem a little sluggish to you, but I assure you for a little $$$ and a few choice bolt ons you'll be impressed.

***EDIT
Here's my goody list...I went ahead and included everything.
-ZZP Modular Pulley System with 3"-3.4" pullies

-180* Thermostat
-TOG headers
-NGK TR6IX iridium plugs
-3" Downpipe and U-bend delete
-Boost Bypass Vavle Mod
-Custom PCM tuning by Archer Motorsports
-ZZP Throttle Body Spacer
-ZZP Polyurethane Motor Mounts
-Ported Throttle Body by Lodder Motorsports

I really like my Camaro, but they don't seem to sell very easy. This one dealer that is willing to give me $16k on trade looks like it may be the way to go. I'll be saving the 6.5% sales tax on $16k, and the 05 Impala SS has a $30,500 window sticker with only 2500 miles on it, and they are seling it to me for $21,450. So it's only $5450 difference, $61xx with tax and license.

The only thing I don't like is whoever ordered it originally, opted for the $350 side air bags, and $795 for the chromed wheels, but left out the sunroof package which included the steering wheel radio controls, and the heated seats/power pass. seat package. I can get a sunroof installed for $1100.

btw, I think the stereo in the Impala sounds better than the one in the Camaro !

Well, I did the deal saturday. It just made financial sense. Next year, as long as my back is better, I'll be looking for a used 05 GTO......I test drove one, they are fast, If they would put that panoramic roof that they offer on the G6 on the GTO......they would have a perfect car in my mind......I like T-tops or sunroofs.

well from what I see , there will be lots of used ones next year. Or maybe you can get a new 05, you can get real good deals on a 05 that hasnt sold.

Do you usually hold onto a car for only a year or so and then trade? Man, that sure is throwing away a lot of money in depreciation. If you would just keep one longer, you could use that money for some nice mods that would be much more enjoyable. But hey, whatever floats your boat. Good luck.

No, i'll probably have this Impala for a few years, the GTO would be an extra vehicle like the Camaro was.

If the Camaro was your extra vehicle, why didn't you keep it and trade in whatever your daily driver was for the Impala?

Well, I hurt my back so it was hard to get in/out, the Camaro was going to be going into winter storage in a month and a half, the warranty was up in november, insurance was $150/month (even for a 40 y/o with a clean record), and when it came out of storage next spring it would have depreciated even more. I found ONE dealer that would give me 3-4 thousand more than any other dealer on trade on a 05 Impala that had 9k off the window sticker. If want another LS-1 car, there seem to be plenty for sale, with prices continuing to go down. And after driving a new GTO, the Camaro just seemed "dated", even though it only had 24k miles and is only 4 years old.

I know the feeling. I had a bad injury from a mission and had to have a two-level fusion (L3-L4-L5 fused together with titanuim rods and a bone graft from my illiac crest). Back pain sucks, but I deal with it. It helps being in great physical shape with regular workouts to stay strong. Otherwise, getting in/out of mine (I have several such toys) would be tough.

$150/month for insurance? Where do you live? I'm 40 and my insurance is a little more that half that for full, high-limit coverage. Well, I do get discounts for multiple coverages, etc., but I understand.

True, you can always get another LS1 car, but you never know what has been done to it. I always buy mine new and hold 'em a long time, because for one thing, I like to know everything that has been done to my vehicles. But that's just me.

Good luck to you and I hope your back gets much better.
