View Full Version : Wiring Conversion - This One is Tricky

I recently bought a few accent lights (LED) that I want to install over my subwoofers and amps in the trunk of my car but, they receive power through a car adapter (plugged in to a cigarette lighter) which are unfortunatly located in the front of the car as always. Is there any way you can think of to remove the car adapter from the setup and just connect the power/ground to nearby wires in the back of the car.

Here's the kicker... on the car adapter there is a button that you press to turn the light on and off. If possible I want to work that into this little fiasco as well. Is there possibly a pre-made converter for a situation such as this? Possibly at Radio Shack? They tend to have piles upon piles of things such as this I would think.

If you happen to have a solution to my quandry, don't get too technical. While I can make a geo metro go 0-60 in 4 seconds, I know little about electronics.

:help: :help: :help:

They make external cigarette lighter jacks, buy one and wire it up in the rear, then plug er in

You win.

Wow, so easy, I didn't even think of that.

Thanks a bunch.

I wired some UV LEDS under my seats, dash. I tapped into the the wire that has power when the headlights are on. Can't see the LEDS when it's light outside anyways. Now for the rear of the car, you could tap/splice into your stereo's 12v supply, or even the taillight (running lights) 12v supply. I would'nt want any cig. lighter socket stuff, myself. Make it hidden, make it automatic.
Just some food for thought.
