Ok guys, I have posted briefly a couple of times, now for probably the most important one. I am making the switch.. hope its worth it. I had a 97 mustang cobra and it is now sold. I am picking up a 98-02 Camaro (haven't found exactly what I want yet so I can't specifiy). It will most likely have nothing more than slp exhaust done. My goal for this beast is to find it somewhere in the range of 450hp n/a. Help me with the most reasonable mods for this vehicle to get me there. Also, if you have time, links to things would be awesome. Another big question I have is gearing. How should these cars be geared? I had 4.10's in mine and it was quick (although not much highway because it was a 5spd) but I know Camaros redline quicker than my 6800 did. I am lookin for everyones help and thoughts. Thanks.. hope I made the right decision

to make the power you want, more or less those parts will make it for you.
the car wont have the best of street manners and nor will making 450 to the rear be cheap.
now if you get an automatic ls1 car, youll need a stall thats about 3800 rpm.
if the car is a stick, the 3.43 will do but a 4.11 will really make above combo scream.

99-TR230/236-112 Thunder Racing Custom Camshaft - 230/236 .590/.598 112 LSA 2400-6800 RPM Power Band. Excellent mid-range & high RPM power. 3200+ stall, 3.42+ gear, computer tuning required. Due to the fast ramp rate of this camshaft, the use of 1.8 rockers is not recommended.

lets say you get either packages i posted or a different package, youll need a upgraded oil pump and a dual roller timing chain.
youll also need an new aftermarket air intake lid which im sure youll see on youre own when you search for parts, its about $100 bucks.
last but not least, you need a dyno tune after everything is installed.

This is just my opinion, so take it as such, but, I never really understood the concept behind the question, "I need 450hp n/a, what do I need to get there". I think the better question needs to be based around what time you're looking to run, what speed you're looking to trap, and if it needs to have good street manners.
Dyno numbers mean jack, as any decent cam can help catapult you into the 10's & 11's, provided you build the rest of the car correctly to accomodate it. Weight, suspension, gearing... are very key factors in running the quarter mile numbers that most people desire.... ;)
Just an Opinion, and welcome aboard!

I am just worried about ground clearance with the headers, also what suspension mods should I consider? Can't imagine i should be ignoring that.

Go with MAC mid-length headers, they're just as good in my opinion. Focus you're attention on exactly where (RPM wise) you do the majority of you're driving... then piece together the proper valvetrain. There are a lot of vendors out there that make very strong "adjustable" torque arms. An aftermarket 12 Bolt rear (with the right gearing based on you're valvetrain selection) is a must once you start planting that power down to the ground. Sub frame connectors, Koni Shock's and a good set of drag radials.
There are other suspension mods, but mainly for cornering. Weight reduction, along with the right stall speed converter (combined with the above mods), and I can only tell you one last thing, hold on to you're freaking hat... ;)

Read many threads and posts about those that want to dive head first into power mods, thats great for some but, after a lot of carefully consideration, I have decided to concentrate on chassis/suspension upgrades first then worry about power.
My T/A is still under warranty and I'm in no hurry to tear into the motor.
I will eventually replace every piece of rubber between the engine and the tires. With SFC's and Strut tower brace. Read a lot about how STB's don't add that much stability, however I'm gonna do it anyway. Think the benefits justify the cost.
Who knows maybe few years down the road when the warranty dies, the LS7 will be with-in my grasp! Then why bother with the LS1 or LS2!
Know what some are thinking, why not go blower with juice?? Still there is something about brutal normally aspirated power! Plus think about how much more can be gained with those power adders on a heavily modded LS7. . .Slap huh? Oh, wake up & come back to earth!
Interesting idea though! But a lot of work, entire drive train will need to be upgraded for that monster!
Option 2: Save up for a 2006 or 2007 Z06! . . . Ouch!:Ohno:
